Fight, Passion, Pride and Grit.

What do all these words have in common?

They are all used by people who don't understand why there team have not played well. Some managers who know nothing about football even use it. Sadly the truth is all footballers care and try as hard as they can. They are just buzz words which means nothing?

So why were we so apalling today?

Players were scared to come and accpet responsibility for the ball. When a player got it he would have no options. A good team has three or four players making off the ball options each time a new player recieves the ball. Our players looked flat and did not move into ball receiving positions.

When our flair players did receive the ball in the first half, Canero and Williams, they were given no options. They inevitbly gave the ball away. Really not their fault when there is no movement. So they both did exactly the wrong thing. Hid from the ball. Didn't take it in difficult situations. Further compounding the problems.

This was a major problem last season and it is sad to say that it appears Micky has not managed to change anything over the summer.

So please, analyse the football rather than referring to this mystical fight and pride. It gets you nowehere.

Ok, but what about players like Dickov and Savage who chased everything, never gave everything up and would risk getting cards for their troubles?

just their style of play I suppose?

(just playing devils advocate ;):P;) )

It means alot, don't try and put people down who use this as a factor for a defeat.

Truth is, some footballer's don't actually care, sorry if this upsets you, but some are too happy just to play the odd 90 minutes and pick up their wage.

Let's analyse the football then.

No movement.

No quality.

No commitment by certain individuals.

No creativity.

No idea.

No control against a very poor Division 1 side.

We should be able to beat Watford - We had the better players, but we didn't match the work rate.

The players had no idea what they were suppossed to do. It is impossible to pass the ball when you don't have options and runners. Impossible to be creative if you get the ball and just have Trev standing there struggling to stand up never mind make an intelligent run.

I thought all our players were committed with the exception of Williams who lookled scared to get involved after being booed by the crowd when he got caught on the ball. To be fair what he wa supossed to do with it I don't know, the rest of the team dissapeared.

Fight and Pride really have very little to do with it, every professional player wants to win.

Every professional wants to win - But it's how much you want to win which is the difference. Watford wanted it more than us yesterday.

Here Here

If we cannot beat a Watford team whose aim realistically is to stay in Div 1 then we have a few problems i hope this is just a glitch but.........

Excellent post, agree all the way. The fact that the hoof meant we had no rythm throughout the team aswell didn't help. Until the players get used to passing the ball, we will never be consistent.

Where's the passion and pride?

We sold them to Birmingham and Blackburn.

14333[/snapback]

heh, I thought we just gave them away

We look clueless. We have players who need the ball on the deck, but instead we are still playing this 'hit and hope' game, which patently doesn't work!

What happened to the passing game we saw against Real Mallorca?

Talk about one extreme to another....
