Only when I'm not typing fast...

I wasn't having a dig, Lee; I was just curious.

There is something about the way you express yourself that made me wonder.

No offence intended.

Nice one Lee a good read that, I like the silks as well, some of the best I have seen, is their a stroy behind why he chose them?

He sounded like a decent fella to be around, what a great shame he didn't go ahead and buy Dream Ahead when he had the chance, would have been a fitting end, almost like Cecil and Henry on a smaller scale.

Salford? Think I've backed one of his, I can't remember the name but I backed an odds on shot at Leicester last summer starting with that, I'll have a search on the Racing Post site when I get on a PC later and let you know it's name.

Salford Secret, You back him?

I lost a Leg on him... Absolutely hammered him, I did not see it conceivable that he could get beat...

Adam Kirby rode him, coming up the hill the ground was very soft and he couldnt get out of 2nd gear, The trip was a bit short in all honesty but hindsight eh ;)

After that run, and a poor following "work" on the grass at newmarket on similar ground, we did not run him on that ground anymore... He lost an edge after that as started to go backwards at home, He was a big strong black colt. He won just before we sold him, and won quite well!

We knew he had ability but the key was in a haystack..

He was sold to Italy to one of marcos clients, Where since he has placed 2nd in a listed, and won a listed in very nice fashion! On what? SOFT GROUND. His action at home suggested he wouldnt go on ground if you spat on it!, Backed up by a poor Leicester defeat and bad work at home on the ground.

Here is a picture of the vase he won for his victory at kempton before being sold!

The colors were a rushed affair, He had 10 minutes to think of the colours and send them back to whetherbys to be registered... So he used the colors he had on his business lorries, Red, Blue and Yellow :)

Yep that's the one, 4/6 it went off at according to the RP, sure it opened around evens so everyone seemed to be on it!

Has gone onto win a few decent contests so clearly had some ability. Surprised on soft but then again the ground is a bit different in a new country, you want to see the Aussies class as soft, I was at Randwick once and it felt more like Good to Firm on an English National Hunt track lol

You planning to get into ownership properly in the future?

100% I gave tony some cracking horse purchases, and he was one of the few men to make money from the sport!

Hopefully my luck rubs off on myself in 100% ownership, When I plan too is unknown right now, Tony always talked about business Ideas he had running around in his head, And I am currently looking to bring one of those ideas to life! I wont explain it just yet as it's early days!

So that is very time consuming at the moment, I have a few friends who's parents train so I get a fair fix from that!

He asked me to keep his colors going, I promised him I would have those silks on a racetrack after he passes, and have "Salford" return to the track!

So I am determined to do it!

Great stuff, sure you'll manage to do it at some point as well.

Lowry and horseracing are two of my greatest loves and this is a great article. AJ Thompson seems like an extraordinary man.

Lee sometimes grates on me on this forum as he apparently does others, but to be fair, if you were mentioned in the DT, you'd be very proud. So fair play for sharing. There's more than meets the eye with Cityfanlee, it seems.

Making money from racing is incredibly rare unless you can leverage up early. But, is that why people do it?

My girlfriend's father part owned a Grand National placed horse. He lost money in the end, but he still has all the paintings, all the memories and all the newspaper articles from that time and doubt whether he would change it for anything.

PS

Who's off to Cheltenham? Isn't time Bert started the thread? I am counting down the days....
