---------------------------------

This is not the article

I mentioned many times, the Man who I would say made me the person I am today (An arsehole most would say)

Shortly after "Tonys" death, I recieved a call from "Lee mottershead" at the Racing post, To attend an interview about him, To which I gave the information on the following article. They wanted to know about tonys life and his hobbies.

The racingpost featured the news of his death, with no sign of the interview, I thought nothing of it, only to find It has now been printed in the Daily Telegraph...

This morning I found out the news, I called "David Elsworth" who is a racehorse trainer based in my home town of newmarket, who of course trained some of the true greats such as "desert orchid" As I wanted to get some old photos of Tony printed for my home, and was much surprised to hear "Lee, you're in a great piece in the Telegraph yesterday"

"Talking about tony' paintings and racehorses"

Having no reccolection of talking to anyone from the Daily Telegraph, I had to find it, and realised it had been passed on to the telegraph by Lee mottershead at the RP.

I advised on tonys behalf for racehorses he bought and sold (Only later on in his life however) As well as his personal life, paintings and exhibitions (He had 4 of his lowrys in the tate this year which was a fantastic success and seen by 230,000+ this year.

A very interesting read about a man who made himself from a humble background, to one of the biggest private lowry collectors in the country, with some very special names claiming Tony had one of the best private collections around.

He was a great man, insightful, and a fantastic business man.

I have his Racing silks to which I will be using in the future naming racehorses in his honour with the "Salford" name

An ending quote for you from A J Thompson himself.

"Lee, If you have self belief, and believe you can get yourself out of any situation, and believe you can achieve anything, Then you can. Now get that kettle on you ****" lol

Who the hell is Tony?

Even a cursory glance at the article would have told you anything you needed to know. Maybe take a second to engage your brain next time before posting daft comments?

There was nothing daft in what I said. Chill.

Some unnecessarily carping comments in response to this thread about a reasonably interesting person.

Don't let the whingebags drain you of your enthusiasm, Lee!

Still never heard of him before today. Not a racing man though so apologies for not taking a great interest in him.

Congrats on the mention though.

For someone who's featured in one short sentence in said article, you're making somewhat of a big fuss about it, Lee.

It was actually for the "Racing Post" (Which I did not make a thread about as it was deemed for a small blog not a national newspaper)

So making a thread about someone close to me who was VERY big in the art world is a "Big fuss"?

Grow up Prussian, maybe one day you will actually contribute to a thread in a pleasant manner, instead of constantly trying to be an arsehole..

No more from me to you on the subject.

You'd be proud if somebody you knew was in the national newspaper for a great feat of achievements over his life.

If you notice, This thread is not about me. but about the memory of AJ, It mentions my shock to see it in the telegraph 6 months after the initial conversation with a writer from the racing post.

The mention IMO is not congratulatable, just a shock to see it in the telegraph when I was initially told it would be in a small racing post block.

The congratulations go to the great man that was Tony.

It was actually an interview for the "Racing Post" and the information shown was given by myself mostly.

So, all the info about his art collection, his past life, his achievements, his business, his legacy, his will, the sale of the art collection - all information provided by you? Or was it mainly the short horse racing bit in the middle?

You named this thread "waking up to find myself in the daily telegraph", then claiming it all to be about somebody else is misleading, don't you think?

You (seemingly) put yourself in the centre of something when the focus should be on Mr. Thompson (solely).

That does irritate me and I'm sure others, too. Maybe you want to change the thread title?

Would you not find it a bit of a shock to be told that you are in the national newspaper about information given?

The information on his life and paintings were private. and he did not want people to know he was of wealth until he passed, Even in exhibitions he had his name taken off the plaques next to them to state "A private collector"

so yes is the answer to the question, apart from the obvious statements from other people.

He was an unmarried man without children, had girlfriends etc, but for some reason valued my opinion highly, and from there he jokingly called me his "unadopted son" and was refferred to when collecting prizes etc as "Lee thompson" So I was contacted, The racing post tried to contact Marco Botti his present trainer at the time, for more information on tony and his life, to which he passed them onto me.

I appreciate your information about Mr. Thompson, who seems to come across as a deeply friendly and modest person according to your descriptions, and I am glad you two had such a close-knit relationship.

Thanks for editing the thread title. Much more concise now.

Btw, no need to call me an "arsehole" on an online forum. I don't take offense much, but you ought to be more afraid of arseholes in the real world instead.  ;)

No problem on the title, the thread was never about me, just a great shock to see I was mentioned as I thought the story was dead and buried, So posted the thread..

was not intending to make anything about me.

Lee has got to be the most 'touchy' poster on here.

Look at the comments, tell me if you posted about a dear friend who had achieved great feats in life and you cared about greatly.. that would wouldnt be?

Posted

Maybe remembering his great feats and what not to a dear friend shouldn't be aired on a Forum and kept personal.

His wishes were that his racehorses, business, and paintings create a legacy.

He did not like the limelight in person, but he loved people talking about him...

On the last quote.. It's in a national newspaper lol , He wanted Lowry to be the front page of everything, He wanted it to be one of the biggest artists in the world, which is why they have been exhibited in New york and plans on china.

The top auctioneers have since spoken about Tonys collection, and want to spread the name all over the world.

Try keeping that quiet!

Personally I think 'Tony' just groomed you.
