BOSS ON BURY WIN

Craig Levein was full of praise for his side after a thoroughly professional performance saw the Foxes cruise home in the first round of the Carling Cup against Bury at Gigg Lane on Tuesday night.

Goals from Richard Stearman, Joey Gudjonsson and debutant Joe Hamill secured an easy 3-0 win for City - their first away from home of the campaign.

And speaking after the match, the Leicester boss was full of admiration for his men.

He said: "Coming away from home in any competition is always difficult and this was a game that no matter what happened we really couldn't win. The only time that results from games like this are remembered are when you lose.

"Professional is probably the right word for the performance because if we do our job properly, no matter how well we play, we should win.

"There were a lot of pleasing things to come from the game. We kept a clean sheet and we had a lot of players making their debut on the night.

"We looked solid enough and we created some decent chances as we have been doing in all our matches so far this season.

"Joe (Hamill) did quite well on his debut. He is a technical player rather than a physical player. It was important that we kept the ball tonight and he assisted in that. The fact that he has played for the full 90 minutes will boost his confidence as will getting his name on the scoresheet. I'm pleased for him."

But another debutant ended his first game when he left the pitch on a stretcher midway through the first half.

Levein added: "The only disappointing thing to come out of the game is the injury to Patrick Gerrbrand.

"It is the same ankle that has kept him out of late, but he has now injured the other side of it. I don't know as yet how long he is going to be out for but it is really unfortunate for him. He was desperate to play tonight and he ended up coming off on a stretcher."

The draw for the second round of the competition takes place this Saturday at 12:10pm
