Bablemikey Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 But then, who is responsible for buying/organising that team? That is why people are calling for the managers head. Whilst the management team haas the responsibility to identify targets they will not be the ones to negotiate so can hardly be blamed for not landing better players.
Donut Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 Nonsense. My genuine expectation was 14th. That was a realistic too if we played competent football. From 8-20 anyone can beat anyone. It's an average league which has been proven by us not winning for two months and only just has a gap opened up at the bottom. We're not meeting expectations. Anyone who expected us to go down with the players and cohesion we had overestimated this league. Why do some people always trot this shit out? honestly its boring and just plain wrong. Do you seriously think theres not much quality gap between Swansea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and us? theyre all ranked between your magical 8th to 20th Can you say after sundays game you think Aston Villa are no better than us? Overestimated the league? If this league is "average" then god knows what everything below it is, as this is the highest you can go domestically. I expected a struggle. But i didnt expect the sort of abject tactical and technical defficiencies we have.
Rialto 290352 Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 An interesting issue is whether Pearson wanted to strengthen the side but could not do so due to lack of funds being made available and or the pay scale in operation? Did he really think that the current Championship quality side could cope with the Premier league? No matter how hard they work the simple truth is they lack the necessary level of skill and will concede goals as they begin to lose concentration in the second half of games. The lack of strengthening during the Summer was abysmal and really the current position was inevitable given the quality of other sides. Much as I like Pearson, as a manager he is responsible for the team. Football is a results driven business and he is amazingly fortunate not to have been dismissed given not only the results but the obvious lack of quality in the squad. How long will the owners tolerate the situation? January must bring quality signings.

How long will the owners tolerate the situation? January must bring quality signings. But what kind of player can we reasonably expect to sign? You see the problem building already in the January transfer window. You can't really fault the ambition of an £8m bid for a Croatian striker wanted (apparently) by Chelsea and Juventus. But he's already said he ll wait for an offer from a bigger club. Next up, Bournemouth defender, Cook, also wanted by Palace and WBA. So we d be expecting a player with a reasonable expectation of promotion to join a club apparently travelling in the opposite direction. Or if he decides to leave ,to choose us over two sides who are longer established in the Premier. It's almost worth our rivals getting involved - trying to scupper our efforts to improve the squad. It happened time and time again over the summer.
