Fox 4 Life Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 Just been thinking and this situation of us being linked with alot of scottish players is very similar to the one at Reading a few years ago. The only thing that worries me a little bit is it reminds me of what happened when Tommy Burns took over. He was a good manager back then and bought in about 5-6 players who were regarded as the next best thing up in Scotland, anyway they came down on long term contracts and literally all of them were shit and couldnt hack it in England, this also led to one of Readings worst periods and also slot of financial waste! i do have faith in Craig but the amount of Scottish players being signed is a bit of a risk in my opinion. does anyone have any thoughts?
Mark Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 True but who have we been linked to who's Scottish? Maybury is Irish. De Vries is from Surinam. Kisnorbo is Austrailian. They just play in Scotland. Hopefully they'll adapt ok, can't be any worse than the current shower of shite.
Fox 4 Life Posted 13 January 2005 Author Posted 13 January 2005 Yeh true but i mean just generally coming from the scottish leagues, i agree about what we have currently and i think maybury and de vries are good signings but when we are linked with players like the one from Boston it worrie me a little as although they are good scorers in league 2 thay may not be able to hack it in the championship. Look at trev he was amazing at Cambridge and to be honest has done #### all for us!

Anish Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 I agree with you Fox 4 Life - I am a bit apprehensive about signing all these players from Scotland too. But then again, Levein will know a lot more about Scottish-based players than players currently playing in the Championship or Leagues 1 & 2, so I guess we have to trust his judgement and see how they turn out before any serious questions can be raised.

Just saying its a bit of a risk signing so many but as Anish says Craig will know them from his time in Scotland and he will know wether they can hack it in England!
