The People's Hero Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 Ever shopped for cricket equipment online? I've tried 3 local stores and all are experiencing big problems getting stock in due to an apparent 'boom' in the game this and last summer. In fact, one in town which usually has a stock of 500+ bats is down to 18, and 11 of those are Readers (a local manufacturer, most renowned for manufacturing cricket/hockey balls). Anyway, I have digressed.. has anyone used any cricket/other sports goods websites and if so can anyone recommend any. I'm only actually after a few bits which you do have to buy from time to time ie a couple of pairs of batting inners, a pair of padded wk inners, some spikes, cricket bat tape, a new toeguard etc. Also, what equipment do you use? What have you found to be good? I presently have a Newberry Navarone as my first bat, it has a gorgeous middle and a great pick up. My second bat is an MRF Genius.. bit heavy but does pack a punch and the middle seems to be a bit lower so when little bounce and looking to drive the ball, this does the job. A lot of my equipment other than that is cheaper Readers stuff. As a result, my keeping pads and gloves have just about fallen apart now.. any recommendations on this front? A friend of mine who keeps at a similar standard recommends kookaburra but I have found their gloves to be ill-fitting in the past. Right - over to you lot.

Bert Posted 26 July 2006 Posted 26 July 2006 Did anyone read today where that cricket team got bowled out for 5?? But not one of the batsmen scored a run!! All runs came from extras, and every batter got a duck!

I had a bit of a problem with my previous bat which was a Slazenger V600. It was supposedly pre-knocked in... didn't seem like it though as it was completely dead! BDM might well replace it if you get in touch. Woodworm replaced my mate's when he broke his...

Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 July 2006 Posted 27 July 2006 As a bowler, I spend very little on batting equipment. My current bat cost about £40 I think. Got it from Talent Cricket a couple of seasons ago. It's a Kookaburra Kahuna "Dominator". Has done a decent job on the very few occasions it's been called into action. Scored its top score on Monday 7 not out. Not a bad little knock having come in with 4 overs remaining of a twenty over match at number 10 and my mate at the other end hitting a boundary almost every ball. Kept the respect for the team having collapsed big time. Gloves are ancient, donated by a friend of the family when I first started playing. They're Readers but are a bit gay as they come with a purple colour scheme. Need replacing now actually. They've got a rip in on the palm area. Got a Slazenger thigh pad from JJB a few years ago but hardly ever use it. Helmet is getting a bit small and old now. Readers again. Was on sale from a sports shop that was closing down in Leicester a few years back. Pads are Slazenger from Talent Cricket too. About £20 I think. Don't have any spikes, I just relegate a pair of battered white shoes to cricket and buy another pair of shoes to wear in everyday life. Could do with a new bag. My Gunn & Moore bag has ripped at one end. You can get cheapish balls from Sports World although I can't see them for sale on their website.
