As @Finnegan says they were poor then. Got a few dodgy decisions to beat Croatia, drew with Mexico and beat a poor Cameroon before shithousing wins over Chile (on pens) and Colombia before getting battered in the semi.

Yeh I was always delighted to watch them suffer the 7-1 because they were a horrible team and without their referees they’d have gone in the first round. The Croatia game was a joke and they knew they couldn’t beat Colombia for skill so they just kicked them for 90 minutes and never got booked.

Similar to Italy they haven’t produced the same quality players since the early 2000s.

Sounds like the kind of excuse King Power would come out with

Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data.

Please note that, during last night’s match in Guadalajara, several ticketed fans could be seen standing in concourses rather than staying in their assigned seats throughout the match.

They could have just said nothing but it’s like they get some sort of commission per lie.

  3. Infantino is a caricature of evil on the level of Disney villains, except he has that one quality which makes someone all the more hateful in that he presents himself as a respectable man. Reading just a paragraph of his press conference makes me want to chuck up.

  4. I was always World Cup mad but the last two tournaments in particular have made me uncomfortable to watch. When it was in Russia I was quite politically naive and ignorant but I find it hard to believe anyone can be with this one, American news and social media is impossible to avoid.

Anyway, it saddens me I won’t be able to enjoy it when in truth the players should be getting a huge amount of criticism for not boycotting. It’s comfortable to point fingers at a blatantly corrupt authority like FIFA and say well there’s nothing we can do.

But it’s a lot harder for people to accept that Messi, Ronaldo and co plus their teammates saying ‘we’re not playing in a fascist country’ would have forced FIFA’s hand. It’s just another reason I can’t enjoy football anymore. These people are ridiculously powerful and privileged and yet they aren’t willing to make even the tiniest stand for the public.

    So it was easy??

I get what your saying but none of that makes it an easy achievement, we see all the time teams with excellent squads, or Premier League Parachute payments not bouncing back.

It just nonsensical to discredit it

Yes, it’s easy. It’s a shite league with shite teams. Having Southampton’s resources was a massive advantage, and plenty of crap teams get promoted. By default, someone has to get promoted.

The National League is far more difficult to get out of. Let’s start scouting there? If you’re suggesting that getting Southampton promoted suggests he has qualities that National League managers don’t, I don’t agree with you. Most managers get where they are by having the right contacts and, in Martin’s case, misguided confidence.

Many other average managers would have got Southampton promoted. Loads. They didn’t have the right contacts or didn’t buy enough media clout in order to get the job.

How do you know he wasnt affected, my point was no one wanted him here, and he proved them wrong and won them over, the fact that it was 30 years ago just powers the point that owners will do what they want at the club, now, then and future

You said it was a ‘problem’. Well it wasn’t a problem for Speedie because he had a good season.

So who is the negativity a ‘problem’ for? Is it a problem for King Power and Martin if I don’t give them a chance? Good, hopefully they jog on. It’s not a problem for me. I wish we’d caused more of a problem for Rodgers and Cifuentes and Rowett. We couldn’t possibly be worse off.

The whole problem is no one gets a chance at this club, i still remember the same with David Speedie

Nope, the problem is the opposite. The problem is we have no standards, we are too late to say enough is enough. There’s a clear pattern of that over the years.

David Speedie was over 30 years ago and he wasn’t negatively affected at all by the fans’ perception of him so doesn’t that prove you absolutely wrong?

    Probably

bit also flipping that view point, if for example Martin wins us the League One title or gets us promoted let’s say (regardless to how fanciful that is), will those currently disgusted at this appointment be cheering and clapping Martins name at the end of the season, I bet they will be :giggle:

    #fickle springs to mind

I wanted Challinor by the way, I guess we just see how this goes is all we can do

Oh how we will eat our words if Martin gets us promoted from the lowest division we’ve ever been in, it will cement his reputation as a genius!

Even if we got back to back promotions with this cretin I would still hate him. His style of play is what makes me not want to watch football anymore. He’s feeding you shit and telling you it’s ice cream.

  9. The thing that I can’t ‘unsee’ about modern kits is how short the sleeves are. Just lengthening them so they go all the way to the elbow would make decent shirts look amazing again.

And no, football shirts are not supposed to look like or fit like normal clothes.

  10. Definite pen. He’s gone by him and the defender has leaned in to him. It’s not a 50/50 challenge so the defender has no right to lean in to him in that scenario. He’s about to roll it across the 6 yard box. Basically exactly the same as the PSG penalty. Would have been a free kick 100 times out of 100. You can’t shoulder charge when the player has gone by you.

There’s been a number of dodgy decisions tonight, mainly the free kicks any time a player holds their face. Otherwise the last hour has been watchable.

Yes, agree with all that. The other thing that annoyed me about the documentary was Rob Tanner being incredibly patronising about the club and its history every time he appeared.

Yeah this! Disrespectful to the likes of Martin O'Neill & Co to say we'd won nothing before that point!

God, sounds awful. Exactly what we’ve been saying about people associated with this club putting us down at every opportunity while other clubs talk themselves up until the media accepts them as a big club.

I definitely will not be watching.

  12. The thing that highlights why I hate these people so much is that you’ve got Forest fans, who no one had heard from in over 2 decades, all of a sudden giving it large on social media about being one of the biggest clubs in the country. There’s loads of them now.

And we can’t say squat because we’re a total embarrassment. That’s what King Power have done to us. Even Cov are laughing at us. I go through long periods not feeling any emotion for us but seeing these other clubs being allowed to grow bollocks without being put in their place enrages me.

  13. I’m just so sick of adidas. Regardless of what else they do with the design seeing those 3 (probably gold) stripes on the sleeve is just going to annoy me. Those design restrictions ruin their entire catalogue.

Bit of justice. Didn't want Boro going up after this.

I fear they will get absolutely smashed to pieces but fair ****s to Hull. One of the most baffling promotions I can remember. Probably the nearest thing to Holloway's Blackpool I can remember.

Blackpool were a good side going forward though, they just couldn’t defend. They may have got 70 points but the division was extremely strong that season. Cardiff had Bothroyd and Chopra up front and only finished 4th.
