Looking at his coaching masterclass video when they smoked Cardiff 4 nil away from home. His set up makes me think both Aluko and Joseph have a real chance of prospering as you say. Aluko could play as wide CB that operates as a box crasher as well with central midfielders screening any advance and Joseph plays as the wing back / winger.
Badly need a solid LB that can do everything. Wonder if Harrison Burrows is willing to drop down the leagues, straight swap for Big H? 😂
The one thing I’ve been wondering with Martin… is he the type that will play someone who doesn’t fit because they are the better player or will he play the worse player (or less reputation) that fits the system? Basically will he play Thomas or kristiansen because we’re stuck with them or even if they’re here, will he use a better suited fit (the next academy option)
im sick to the death of people trying to squeeze Luke Thomas into a team

His agent? I've definitely seen his face before just can't put a name to it 😂
If you can figure it out, quick look at his client list and see who’s out of contract and you can bet they will be in the door

Anyone heading out to Boston? I’m going to be going to the game on Friday. Atmosphere has looked class, hopefully being English won’t piss off too many

The main problem with hiring Russell Martin, is that it means we’re not just folding the club

Wonder what he thinks of the striker options
Best thing the club could do for him is not signing any before his first game. If he started hutchinson or Evan’s and it went well… fans would open up almost at an instant.

Imagine trusting Russell Martin, a very one dimensional manager tactically, with one of the biggest squad rebuilds we have had in a very very very long time
He will be sacked by Christmas and the clowns will do the same again and bring in another manager whose style of play is the opposite and doesn’t match the squad at all
Can’t wait to rebuild with possession based players before we panic mid season for the league 1 equivalent of Sean dyche

I think the problem I have is that the best case scenario is that we’re relatively successful on the pitch but bored out of our minds for the next 3 years with some humiliating results along the way.
We could be having a pretty good season results wise but then you get forest in the cup and lose 6-0 because of the ‘philosophy’. It all just feels a bit predictable and even if he does okay I just don’t think the fans will buy in and we really needed something to buy in to, with so many on the brink of giving up on the club

What’s disappointing is that we were promised brutal honesty and someone who would get everyone working hard.
He decided everyone deserved a holiday. Let winks do what he wanted. Didn’t get the best out of anyone and simply didn’t care

You’d imagine Ross Stewart post World Cup is a shoe in? We need a striker and a target, Martin signed him at saints and last time he was in league one he took the piss.
Fitness issues as always with us though
Surely there’s no way Stewart drops to league 1

I was actually a little excited for a league 1 campaign, im certainly not now

Ex Chelsea youth prospect, spent 5 years at brentford, signed a one year deal with Oxford so is a free agent and from a brief glance, sounds like he may have had some injury issues through his career so far.

was challinor ever in the frame? Or just wishful thinking on the fans behalf?
There’s a genuine possibility the decision makers at the club, don’t even know who he is

Why does it even matter what division the opposition is in? It’s a preseason friendly.
Because Burton haven’t forgotten when benalouanne attempted to murder one of their players in preseason! It’s got potential for a fofana leg break

I really don’t get why some fans are so against signing the odd experienced player. As I said in my previous post, yes we have mental scars over some of our more recent experienced signings, but look at our Nigel Pearson days for example and some of the names he signed.
If we end up appointing Russell Martin, then throughout his career he’s signed some very decent young players, but he even signed the occasional experienced player, Cameron Jerome and Andrew Surman at MK, Joe Allen at Swansea.
A lot will of course depend on departures, but at the end of the day, our leadership group in recent times has been appalling, and imo it badly needs rectifying this summer.
Many players “winding down their careers” are still doing the business in League 1, take Oli Norwood for example.
Whether Sam Morsy or someone similar, we are going to need a couple of experienced players walking through the door whether some fans like it or not.
We’ve been burnt recently so forget how vital it can be. Matt Oakley helped kingy through his break through season. Steve Howard complimented fryatt perfectly. Bruno berner, nobby solano…. They all offered so much for us.
it’s not the age I care about, it’s the personality and the quality. If they are genuinely motivated then i have no issue adding an experienced head to what will likely be a very young core group.

2 or 3 of these will genuinely sign for us won’t they?

Feels weird to me to play a team in the same division in pre-season...

LEICESTER CITY vs. Northampton Town
Pre-season
LCFC Training Ground
Saturday 11 July
Kick-off: 12pm
Burton Albion vs. LEICESTER CITY
Pre-season
Pirelli Stadium

Yeah that’s a highly weird thing to do. I can assume we think we’re a step above them which isn’t great
