was challinor ever in the frame? Or just wishful thinking on the fans behalf?
There’s a genuine possibility the decision makers at the club, don’t even know who he is

Why does it even matter what division the opposition is in? It’s a preseason friendly.
Because Burton haven’t forgotten when benalouanne attempted to murder one of their players in preseason! It’s got potential for a fofana leg break

I really don’t get why some fans are so against signing the odd experienced player. As I said in my previous post, yes we have mental scars over some of our more recent experienced signings, but look at our Nigel Pearson days for example and some of the names he signed.
If we end up appointing Russell Martin, then throughout his career he’s signed some very decent young players, but he even signed the occasional experienced player, Cameron Jerome and Andrew Surman at MK, Joe Allen at Swansea.
A lot will of course depend on departures, but at the end of the day, our leadership group in recent times has been appalling, and imo it badly needs rectifying this summer.
Many players “winding down their careers” are still doing the business in League 1, take Oli Norwood for example.
Whether Sam Morsy or someone similar, we are going to need a couple of experienced players walking through the door whether some fans like it or not.
We’ve been burnt recently so forget how vital it can be. Matt Oakley helped kingy through his break through season. Steve Howard complimented fryatt perfectly. Bruno berner, nobby solano…. They all offered so much for us.
it’s not the age I care about, it’s the personality and the quality. If they are genuinely motivated then i have no issue adding an experienced head to what will likely be a very young core group.

2 or 3 of these will genuinely sign for us won’t they?

Feels weird to me to play a team in the same division in pre-season...

LEICESTER CITY vs. Northampton Town
Pre-season
LCFC Training Ground

Burton Albion vs. LEICESTER CITY
Pre-season

Yeah that’s a highly weird thing to do. I can assume we think we’re a step above them which isn’t great

Generally quite decent tbf. Quite a few players that went on to bigger things later in their careers

Funnily enough the fact his MK Dons and Swansea teams did better after he left gives me some hope that he can make the tough changes needed. Whether he stays to see them come good is a bit secondary at the moment. Its also possible he has learned from his experiences and got better. Rangers are clearly a club in a mess though, as are we and that worried me a bit.
I know managers aren’t fully responsible these days but anyone got a list of the squad changes that happened at either club? Particularly Swansea?
At Southampton Brooke’s, thb and shea charles were all good incomings. Manning he moved over from Swansea if I remember correctly.

He did ok to start with. Had one decent run of games and then was crap. No different to before he came.
To be completely fair, you had nothing to play for so it’s extremely hard to motivate the team. I think getting that string of results you did should have been enough to show he was capable of getting a tune out of what you had.
I think yourselves and west ham walk the league anyway, so it’s not like it will bite you but still extremely harsh imo

My tune has probably changed but I’d rather sell Nelson than souttar now. Obviously we may lose both but if it was one or the other … I think we’re at a place where we need definite quality, not potential. A team with souttar gets promoted a team with Nelson

Cov fans were livid with Lampard
That’s a good shout. I guess the difference is that lampards issue was that they just thought he wouldn’t get results. As seen with Enzo, even if we win games we still won’t like what we’re seeing.
For where we are, if he gives youth a chance and wins the majority of games. I’ll be happy. But the get it forward fans aren’t ever going to accept this one
-
Can anyone, actually put forward a name of a manager that’s gone in somewhere completely unpopular and done well?
from any club. It’s just always impossible to do well when the fans are truly against it. I don’t mean like Claudio is an odd choice… I mean when fans are actually fully against an individual. Even if they start well one slip up and it just gets toxic in an instant as everyone waits for the chance to be proved right.
Rafa at Everton. Frank at spurs. Nuno at spurs. Bruce at villa or Newcastle.
I just can’t think of a happy ending when a guy is demonized before a ball is kicked and actually turns those opinions around?
It’s not even like he’s coming into a club that has low expectations out fans will not be happy to lose to any club in league 1… and essentially he needs to be perfect with his PR and results for at least the first month to get any credit in the bank. Or it will go the same as rangers

I hope you’re right!
Aluko looks a real prospect so would be a shame if Martin’s appointment hampers his chances. The other point is I think his style of play will actually suit some of our more technical academy players such as Sammy, Page, Alves and Nelson if he stays. Just need him to trust them
If I were to guess, he’d be more likely to use him as a cm to just win the ball and lay it off to someone. I think the fullbacks will be essential to how this system works so I just think the hamza rb experiment will be put to bed.
Enzo used hamza purely as a back up, don’t think he’d ever have had a prominent role. One training session and you’d be dipping into the market if he was first choice

Always needed a full stop thread.

Surely you wouldn't state you wanted a break from football then take another job? He'd just leave.
Supposedly got the hump when they denied permission to speak to them so he’s basically told them that if they won’t allow him to leave to another club, he’ll simply not work.

Brussel loves both full backs inverting doesn’t he? With a nice big gap between his CB’s to leave his sides vulnerable at the back.
You just know that means Hamza inverting from RB again rather than Aluko 😬 and probably means a new GK needed as I don’t think Jakub is good enough on the ball for this system.
Stolarczyk
Nelson - W-Brown
Hamza - Skipp - Thomas
Braybrooke - Page
Joseph Evans Alves
Not sure Martin will fancy hamza in the slightest. I think alukos chances will have increased sevenfold.
A manager obsessed with possession is not going to want someone who doesn’t have the technical ability. I’m one of the few on here that actually does rate hamza. But we’ve never played a way that works for him and Martin won’t be any different. In a high turnover team that’s attempting to break lines consistently hamza is very useful as he is at his best when he is hounding to get the back back quickly (not last man or in your box) higher up the field.

Rob Edwards getting sacked by Wolves apparently. Doubt he'd drop down to League One. Doubt I want him either. But it's not Martin.
You wouldn’t want Edward’s?!?

I think there is a time limit on claims which means we wouldn’t be able to bring any claim against Man City or Chelsea
burnley brought their claim against Everton promptly

Largely would come down to what they get charged with. But any points penalty and we can go back and say they should have had it in the seasons that impacted us. But we all know they will get cash and a slap on the wrist…… butt theoretically if they do get hit with something mega… you’d imagine we’d have grounds

This could be huge for us. We may have lawsuits aimed at us from championship clubs but….. we have one of the biggest claims of missed champions league football for 2 seasons. This is going to be incredibly messy and I’m shocked this door has been opened.
I don’t think a single club should be sued…. I think the league should be for allowing it but seeing as the league get their money from every club that would be a little unfair

So the only credible link is from John Percy who claims that Martin is under consideration. That's it? Nothing else other than wild histrionics and doom mongers.
So dramatic on Foxestalk.
I don’t think there’s a doubt that he’s out number one choice though. Which is the big problem really because it’s simply not the direction we wanted the club to go in. Whether he accepts or not, we now know that’s the road the club want us to continue down…. It’s just all more evidence that we’ve learnt nothing and have no desire to change course.
what’s most alarming, is that if you read between the lines it likely means top thinks the issue was that the managers we hired were the reason for our downfall and not everything else. I think a full on reimagining should have been on the cards after crashing us to our lowest ever point

I saw rochdale had a new manager and literally assumed their old boss would have moved to Stockport…. Because they are a club that know what they’re doing. The club size doesn’t matter when you are as incompetent as us

I don’t. That’s a good way to tarnish a legacy. Some things are better left behind closed doors tbqh

If we don't get Martin we'll end up with a pound shop version of him. This is not an endorsement of Martin, by the way—just an observation of what is likely to happen.
Yeah exactly. I think with the way we are run, people need to realise that it won’t be a good thing in the slightest if it falls through.
We would need a huge stroke of luck to not get it all wrong again

Ex Chelsea youth prospect, spent 5 years at brentford, signed a one year deal with Oxford so is a free agent and from a brief glance, sounds like he may have had some injury issues through his career so far.
