I dont necessarily agree with xG and xGA being the indicators of whether your league position is aligned but I would say that Possession % is a poor measure of likely success. That's despite what many managers say, including Cifuentes and Maresca, as their philosophy and Holy Grail. If I recall correctly: 1. We won on Saturday, scoring our most goals in a game this season and guess what our Possession % was less than Swansea's !!! 2. Our best result in 2023-24 was 5-0 home to Russell Martin's Southampton; and our Possession % was 40% in that game. I remember Maresca being dissatisfied with that aspect after the game!! 3. We won the Prem in 2014-15 by 10 points with our Possession stat % being 17th in the league.. I rest my case my lord.
