  1. I wish they would do couple more drastic things regarding the energy market regulations marginal pricing/regional pricing or something else more drastic. Not really anything else they can do on electricity generation that they ain't already doing other then perhaps going faster getting infrastructure upgrades, varied power generators online and battery storage installed. They have sped up massively form what the Tories were doing to be fair to them but can't help but think battery storage isn't ambitious enough despite the increase in capacity and approvals they have done so far. Wind currently generating 80% of our power. Our investment in power generation is one of the few major projects as a country we have done pretty well at in recent times and should be proud of imo.
  2. Ha ironically that joke normally uses Sainsbury's as the butt of the joke. 'Sainsburys..... keeps the scum out of Waitrose' Kinda doesn't work so well with Aldi
  3. The discussion wasn't about flags it was nationalism. Nationalism is more then just displaying a flag. There was loads of talk about about flags on public/council property but only thing I remember about private property was the sentiment of put your flags up at your own house. As far as I can see there hasn't been a big increase in raising flags at home since the protests. I personally think the negative sentiment towards the flags was actually towards the protestors.
  4. Come on now you never hear criticism of them? If you'd said they rarely get it then Id definitely disagree with you but I'd accept it as an honest account. 'I never hear that' just comes across as dishonest to me. I don't think there's so much comments about people putting St George/Union flags on their own private property but there is an association with being racist if your on a march about immigration with the flags or if you're putting the flags up specifically in certain areas in order to 'protest' rather then just installing a flagpole and putting your flag up at your own property. Was interesting that so many flags stayed on lamposts and other objects for months and months afterwards. In fact alot of the times the flags were so battered it looked pretty pathetic and you'd think that people who were so patriotic would have at least replaced them. Despite the rights obsession with saying you get arrested for putting them up or that they will quickly get taken down. I think that what the raise the flag protest really showed is its largely a right wing myth that they use to rile up anger.
  5. Changing the name to Department of War. They way they tweet and the names they give their military operations. It kinda fits American policy and even the 'American personality' to be honest (Id include Dems and more traditional repubs in this). Brash, in your face, arrogant etc they just can't do subtlety, understatement. Not sure a lot of the Maga base is gunna be happy with this are they. Lots of them have feel they just do whatever Israel wants and they hate it.
  6. I mean only if you ignore the criticism other countries have gotten for pushing their nationalism too far. India / Pakistan / China / Japan.
  7. I see Reform are taking this loss with plenty of grace and humility.
  8. This was a 'very very safe' Labour seat though tbf. Where you'd usually expect a 'incumbent government bashing' but still expect them to hold the seat. I'm thought the Greens would beat Labour but im surprised they so easily beat Reform aswell. As things stand can't see anything but a Hung parliament next GE.

  11. This almost makes it sound as if it's terrible news. To be clear I'm not defending this...... I'm saying this is objectively a GOOD thing for consumers. The energy/eletricity prices are very high and you can you can complain about that and recognise the levy removals as a good policy change at the same time. Yes I would 'defend' if it was a right wing government because it means they've reduced the levies on current and future bills, surely you can acknowledge that's a good thing.
  12. In April it will be about £6 a month more expensive then when Labour came in so not quite 'far higher' as you say. It's not the 300 cheaper(£25 per month) that they are aiming for by 2030 but it is a pretty good thing for consumers this. It's not price drop down to wholesale costs falling so could go back up again later like we've seen in the past. It's a policy cost finishing and a policy cost shifting so reduction will stay off.
  13. Gowon Gordon! One of the few Prime Ministers of real substance and a real sense of duty. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/gordon-brown-hands-sex-trafficking-193456370.html
  14. It is big problem. Not really sure how they fix it either tbh. The short term choices arent really an options tbf. They seemed to of bet big on the longer term investment which I do applaud them for even if it will end up knee capping themselves politically. Hopefully some of the positives signs coming out of the economy start to lead to proper growth
  15. Unemployment was rising but no doubt Labour have caused it to rise faster. Other part is AI is putting pressure on unemployment too now.
  16. I'm not sure if any of the political parties are ready do what's necessary in terms of defence tbh. More coop with Europe. Less integration with USA. Spend much more on defence Cut back on welfare spending (pensions & universal credits/pip) BBC News - UK government considering increase in defence spending - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpqwl10lvr2o Hopefully they do go ahead with this and get us upto 3% by 2026 although there's so many issues with defence armies ATM.
  17. If you believe free speech means you can say whatever and these kind of comments should be allowed then that's your opinion but the fact that they are online shouldn't really come into it should it? Usually thats done because you would either be trying to down play comments because they are online (hence why people added the 'just' to your post) or maybe you think online speech should be judged less harshly then "in person" speech which I'm not sure really holds up. Jordan Parlour. Pleaded guilty seems to of been involved in a few posts/comments on this. 'he posted: "Every man and their dog should be smashing f*** out of Britannia Hotel." The post, relating to an East Leeds hotel housing more than 200 refugees and asylum seekers, was brought to authorities' attention after objects were thrown at it in two terrifying incidents last week. Prosecutor Matthew Donkin said examination of Parlour's phone showed the post, including a reply from someone else who said: "I'm down if you are my lad?" A reply from the defendant said: "Start by 5 bells tonight...be all gravy." Mr Donkin said: "He was asked about his anger and frustration and he said he posted it because he feels asylum seekers take tax off our people, rape our kids and get priority and he said he'd rather his money go on something else."' Tyler Kay. Pleaded guilty and Was involved in a few posts. 'He tweeted on Wednesday: "Mass deportations now, set fire to all the f***ing hotels full of the b******s for all I care... If that makes me racist, so be it". Kay also reposted a screenshot of another message inciting action against a named immigration solicitors in Northampton. He went on to respond to several comments posted by others following his post, adding that it was "100% the plan.' Pretty hateful comments tbf. I think if you make these sorts of comments and then hotels get attacked and people commit arson on them then these sorts of messages are going to get attention on them and then the police are going to investigate. The thing is with online posts is the evidence is much clearer then if you said something down the pub.
  18. https://phys.org/news/2026-02-beavers-reintroduced-uk-year.html Excellent news. More Beavers please
  19. Part of the reason why Chamberlain pursued the appeasement strategy was to buy more time for our defences to rearm and build up. We weren't ready for conflict.
  20. *25-35 years ago. They both built lots of generators but New Labour just went on the dash for gas until the end of their term. I always give the Tories credit for the offshore wind push they they did. Both Tories and Labour ****ed up from 1990-2006 (less so after 2006 but still pretty poor) especially regarding nuclear. Then they both started to shift but neither did enough. Hopefully SMRs can sort of be a renaissance in nuclear energy. That battery storage and optimised grid infrastructure can and will provide the inertia and flexibility we need in the system
  21. Agreed our grid needs major investment which they are doing to be fair but we need to go further but our lack of investment in this regard for the last 20 years is hampering us. I think you are jumping the gun if your implying renewables caused that blackout. Found a very informative YouTube video about the report and shows just how complicated electrical grid systems are. Inertia is not the only thing we rely and I agree to keep looking at our grid and upgrading it but *before* adding more generators isn't good enough. It's not efficient, too risky and not ambitious enough. Under investment in this country has been a key handbrake on the country for years now and we've got to get on with stuff if we decide to do something not go in half hearted.
  22. Yeah he will remove all the solar and and build lots of new gas power plants because somehow that will be cheaper.
  23. BBC News - More solar farms on the way after record renewables auction - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp85n416n3vo#comments Got lots of connectivity infrastructure and power storage to sort now but they've definitely gone all in on renewables that's for sure.
  24. The Rwanda scheme really was just a dog whistle wasn't it. Tories could've done much more then they did but wanted to use it for political gain instead. They only actually started to do something right at the end of their term in government under Sunak I know many will say this isn't enough but for a start its actually pretty good. Although I do feel for Labour cause no doubt the 'concerned citizens' won't give them credit for it and just leap to millions of deportations needed now. Without any consideration for the legality, practicality or ethics of that. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/feb/05/home-office-60000-deported-removed-since-2024-election-migration?CMP=share_btn_url https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/african-countries-agree-uk-migrant-returnster-sanctions-threat-x63lz52kl
  25. 100%. Electing personalities doesn't work. They always end up incompetent ala Johnson Truss. Boring prime ministers like Major, Brown, May and Starmer is what we need
