  1. Really doesn't seem much of a leap tbh. Just standard Nigel Trumpian politics that won't actually do anything but creates some PR for them. Not sure why people keep falling for the political elite populism we've had for the last 10+ years as it fails every time
  2. It's basically some of the Octopus tarrifs on a larger scale right? Yeah they have to shut off windfarms due to excess energy yet Data centres have to be powered by gas power plants. Quite a few have fallen for the misinformation
  3. BESS is at too small a scale at the minute although this will rapidly increase so in the not to distant future it will make a massive difference .Tbf to Labour they have really pushed through a lot of the battery storage. The other thing is interconnectors. We are already at the stage where it's cheaper for us to buy significantly from the French Dutch and Norwegians rather then turn on our own Gas power plants. Days of significant gas powered electricity are behind us.
  4. The US isn't the only other alternative here btw. Bet Chinese, Russian and Canadian fertiliser raw materials orders will go up massively. Europeans just doubled down on renewables. Trumps politics are 15 to 20 years out of date.
  5. I've actually quite enjoyed it. Obviously it's a sketch show so there are hits and misses but with the lack of sketch comedy on TV at the minute I'm pleased to get some more of it especially with new talent. The Jools Holland -Time Man sketch for some reason really tickled me. Interesting reading online that the north American audience seem to think its really quite good.
  6. If people want to advocate for more gas and oil drilling contracts to generate tax revenue and create jobs fair enough. Anyone claiming drilling more north sea will bring down electricity bills I just can't take seriously. Especially if you say add stuff like 'building solar farms in an overcast country like Britain is stupid' / 'what happens when it's not windy'
  7. England and Wales. The only countries in the world to have privatised water
  8. That's regs quite easily added in tbf though. Really? Everything i've seen on it seems to suggest adoption in new builds was pretty poor. 'Standard' would suggest that something like 70% upwards have heat pumps which I find very hard to beleive
  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czjw7klkjm2o Developers will be required to install solar panels and heat pumps in all new homes in England as part of updated planning requirements published by the government. About 10 years late but better late then never
  10. It's rare that we've had wage growth above inflation much in recent times. We desperately need it a bit more often if we are going to recover some of the disposable income lost over the last 16 years. Thanks to Israel and USA though can't see this continuing. Fuel and food inflation again wonderful.
  11. Boris Johnson and Liz Truss are both far worse then Starmer. What in particular makes you think he's our worst PM?
  12. I don't believe so no it's not as black and white as that. Multiple things can be true at the same time. We need the US and also Europe isn't going to collapse to Russia either. Can't just follow blindly what Trump want's for what? He might help, if the US can make a load of money from it but it wouldn't be certain even if we helped him in Iran. He has said he cba re Ukraine already. Theyve took away majority of the assistance to Ukraine. European nations are the ones that stepped in to plug up the gap the US left supporting Ukraine. The major problem would be US withholding intelligence and information from Ukraine.
  13. Whilst our procurement has been poor it takes years of sufficient/good spending to improve the effectiveness. Even if we were at 3.5% gdp now it would take a decade or so to become effective again especially in the Navy because of how long and expensive those warships are to build Constantly cuting the ship numbers or of each type of ship we build will always make our procurement look poor. The Type 45 was initially supposed to be 12 ships in the fleet then we cut it to 8 then we cut it to 6 but the R&D and manufacturing tooling costs don't reduce when you cut the total ships. That's how the type 45 ended up being a 'billion pound' destroyer when It should have been more like 500 million a ship. If we had 12 we'd always have at least 3 type 45s ready to gone. Even if we built 8 then we'd always have 2. Building 6 meant we only have 1 available at any time sometimes maybe 2 hence why we struggled so much to get one down to Cyprus. We should have built 3 aircraft carriers to guarantee always 1 available. The type 26 ASWs we are building thanks to the deal we made with Norway should be more cost effective but even with the type 26 we should've ordered more. Currently we have 5 type 31s on being built again numbers are too low.
  14. It's interesting that interconnectors tend to provide more generation then Gas throughout lots of the day too shows buying from Norway France Denmark is cheaper then Gas generation. So frustrating that we didn't build just a few Nuclear power plants in the 90s 00s and early 10s. Our wholesale costs would be tiny right now if had.
  15. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/mar/13/nuclear-power-generation-uk-deregulation-plans-ed-miliband?CMP=share_btn_url I was worried they weren't going to move forward with the report recommendations so I'm glad to see this. Solar generating more then Gas and Nuclear combined at the minute.
  16. Amazing how much the right wing press and social media platforms have been pushing this war and the polling doesn't show the public is keen on the idea. Farage saying we should be bombing Iran previously criticised Obama for bombing campaigns and Tories are attacking Labour on or small military underfunded military is completely hypocritical. Labour do deserve some blame in the state of our military but the Tories are the ones that deserve the bulk of the criticism for that especially after crimes. I previously thought that the right and left were relatively both war averse in both the USA and the UK but the right was 'all talk' in this regard it seems
  17. First comment. Some reform supporter asking for the Murton demographics
  18. I think it's more. If we're going down we're taking everyone down with us philosophy that people normally associate with a nuclear war
  19. Yup should've moved it towards eastern med/gulf 2 weeks ago but somehow we didn't have the hindsight to do it. Part of the issue is definitely our hollowed out Navy and armed forces so the equipment and forces we have is really top stuff but spread way to thin. Something something too little investment in last 20 years (I feel like almost every quite major issue this country has stems back to underinvestment to varying degrees)
  20. So we're finally sending a Type 45 down to med to protect our bases. Should have sent one a week ago. Our military desperately needs money now. Hope Labour do decide to send the extra money early to MoD as we can't go on like this
  21. There's wild promises from both Greens and Reform I guess in a weird way it's slightly reassuring that because Reform are liars and Bulls***tees some of their crazy policies seem less likely
  22. I think you're right in that the general leave voter doesn't/didn't give the USA barely a thought. But the right winger politicians advocating and pushing Brexit definitely were/are pinning for the US in the geopolitical realm the general American political model in almost every way
  23. I think this is his problem as a Prime Minister. He doesn't really go down a ideological pathway. He just treats it's issue on its own and decides what's best for the country. Very much a lawyers method. For me personally think he's played it about right. Didn't get bullied into by the Americans but changed policy after an attack on the UK
  24. That happened in January. Obviously still relevant but it's not in response to Israeli US attacks I believe it was someone showing support for the Iranian protests
