I'm with you about Fascism, and I share this fear. However, I do not believe that the current iteration of the Labour Party is without principles - we'll just have to disagree on that.

My best friend's Dad died in March, and at his life celebration last weekend, much amusement was expressed that he refused to go above 50 on the motorway, so parsimonious was he about spending money. He was a great guy but I gather he did get stopped by the police for going too slowly.

People who consider themselves principled or to have better ideals are just as capable of having as closed a mind as the next man.

I think a lot just won't vote at all. You might end up being right, of course, but all the polling is showing this sort of possible outcome across the board.

The boundaries have changed. To answer your earlier question, if you want your vote to have an effect, it's wasted. If you want to vote totally honestly, then it's not.

I think a shadow fron bench tends to be relatively unknown after 14 years in opposition. The same was true of the Tories in 2010. The difference is that (up to now) the majority of our press has been in hock to the Tory party, and go out of their way to not tell us who the opposition are. I respect that opinion, of course. However, 50 reform MPs would send a shudder through every sane individual for what is coming... I am sure you've already done so, but look at who their backers are and how they run themselves - it's a plc, Farage cannot be ousted. That doesn't bode well for anyone who wishes to have anny form of democracy.

For clarity - no, I don't think all right wingers are bad, or evil, or Nazis. What I DID say was that by spouting crap about the current government being 'Socialist' (and does anyone here really believe that description?), it allows anyone who seeks to justify their abhorrent outlook as 'moderate'. In other words, the awful lurch to the right is no good for any of us. And if we were similarly all lurching to the left, it would not be good either. Balance requires honesty, and Reform / Farage / Tice and their horrible backers are not honest. I hope that makes my position clearer @Paninistickers - I appreciate your sincerity here and I know you weren't picking a fight.
