I don't suppose it does either side any harm in being aligned to each other, particularly De Montfort and of course Vichai did of course donate a large sum of money. Possibly I'm just being too cynical and the use of it is given to high achieving student? But ... without going into the circumstances, upon speaking to someone in a certain position at De Montfort, he said, 'you have to stop thinking of these institutions as seats of learning, they're now merely places of big business '. Thinking of all the residential building by De Montfort over recent years, the UK fees of £9000, overseas students around £19000, with the latter a captive audience for rent, I see his point.
I don't want to derail this thread, so I'll keep it brief but you are right. I won't go into specifics but tuition fees from home students now make up a relatively small amount of a Universities overall income, the majority for most universities comes from international students and research grants/other business interests. That sounds bad on the face of it, but in order to provide new buildings, equipment, hire leading academics to teach students etc, that extra income is needed.

You raise a good point and who gets to use it. No doubt if you asked you'd get some corporate bollocks about it being used for corporate purposes for the betterment of the University. In reality my guess it's just a nice little perk fora privileged few at the top.
As a side to my point above, I have travelled to exhibitions aimed at recruiting international students, and trust me the pull of a uni that is linked to a premier league club is huge. For example students overseas may not have heard of De Montfort, but they will have heard of LCFC, so by being able to display the club crest alongside their own is huge.
However I take your point about the use of the box, I imagine that’ll be reserved for those at the top.

What do de Montfort uni need a box for ? Shows how they spend tuition fees.
For £125 k I would want to play in midfield. .That's about 4 x my friends cost down near the end .£30 k works out at around £125 per person per game
As someone that works in the HE sector (albeit not for De Montfort) their box will likely come with their sponsorship of the club. However their sponsorship package with the club will be used to attract overseas students rather than domestic students I would imagine. The money for universities these days comes increasingly from a reliance on attracting overseas students in a very competitive international market.

It’s the same with the auctioned poppy shirts, again I would love to have one and would absolutely treasure it. I wish they would do it differently e.g. you buy a £5 lottery ticket for the shirt you want and they pick out of a hat. Would be a lot fairer.
I absolutely agree generally, but I can understand why the vardy’s have chosen to do it this way as organising a raffle in just a few days is likely to be a logistical nightmare and runs the risk of not raising as much because of the short turnaround time (which is the main point after all).
On a side note, does anyone know if all players get an executive box? I’m guessing not as there surely wouldn’t be enough, so I’m guessing Vardy just pays for one??

I fly out on holiday on Friday morning, yet I find myself feeling gutted that I won’t be there on Saturday to pay my respects. I almost feel guilty I won’t be there. Vichai and his family have given me some incredible memories over the last few years, many of which I hadn’t even dared to dream were possible. I’m sure you all will, but if you’re able to be there on Saturday, give it everything you’ve got, and I’ll be thinking of you all. ?

Well done to everyone. It’s been a very tough week for all of us, but the team and fans in Cardiff have done us and themselves proud today.

I fly out on holiday the day before this match. I’m excited to be going on holiday of course, but a large part of me just really wants to be at this match to show my respect to the family.
Really hope this happens, it’s a fantastic idea

Taken from Sky Sports website:
Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett has been bringing us up to speed about why we are all yet to discover who was on board the helicopter that crashed outside the King Power Stadium last night.
"I understand there are some sensitivities about why this announcement has taken so long," he said.
"Leicestershire Police tweeted about three hours ago saying they were hoping to update people shortly.
"My understanding is that it is going to be a joint statement from the Police, from the football club and indeed from the family, and that is complicated by the cultural situation in Thailand and the formalities that need to be followed there.
"But also, practically, the time difference - it has just gone 1 o’clock in the morning in Bangkok, so communication between England and Bangkok is a little difficult.
"But all of the authorities are hopeful of getting a statement out as soon as possible."
Ah...I hadn’t considered time differences between the two countries as a factor. Thanks for sharing.
I feel I almost need to read the inevitable statement to help myself process what has happened. At the moment without any announcement there’s always that hope, no matter how tiny, and it’s that hope that doesn’t help in my opinion.
This has been one of the strangest days of my life. I never met Vichai, yet I’ve spent most of the day close to tears because he and his family mean so much to me and the football club I love. It feels the same inside as losing a member of family.

Has their been an official announcement as to who lost their life’s in this tragedy....
No nothing. I do think the silence surrounding this from both the club and the authorities is quite odd. I’m sure there are reasons but I would have expected confirmation of fatalities or something similar even if they can’t provide exact details/identities. It just seems unusual.

I really have to echo this.
I'd not speaken to my parents for 19 months, today I felt the need to hold out an olive branch and have just got back from a lovely dinner out with them.
Life is too short.
I have to say it was nice to read this on a day like today. It’s nice to know some form of good has come from such a horrible tragedy.
Best of luck going forward with building bridges with your parents mate.

Has anyone thought about the club and what it means for us? Would Top just take full control now? Is he capable of doing this?
I guess it really doesn’t matter at the moment.
That’s a question for another day really.
I guess Top and the rest of Vichai’s family will need to take some time to decide if they can face coming back. The memories might be too powerful, or the family may decide to pursue Vichai’s vision for the club. Either way they’ll have my full support.

In an era where football club owners are generally accused of stripping lucrative premier league cash away from the club, Vichai and his family have been the complete opposite. We’ve all been so fortunate.
From free beer and donuts, right up to the £2million donation to Leicester’s children hospital, Vichai has concerned himself with benefitting the community, rather than just taking.
I think this is why this tragedy has had such an affect on us all. I’m still hoping for a miracle, after all he helped provide one before. ????

A source close to the family have confirmed to the BBC that the chairman was on board.
I can’t sleep. I’ve never met our owners but the manner in which they’ve conducted themselves and the way they enabled dreams to come true means I hold them closer to my heart than I realised. I’m absolutely devastated.
Thoughts and prayers with the families of all those onboard.

As lovely as the pen and the wallet are, has anyone else noticed that the advertised voucher booklet of discounts is missing?

I don't live near Leicester anymore so have not been to a game in a while. I want to go to Cardiff on 29th December and need 3 tickets.
Is it still pretty much impossible to buy tickets without membership???
What's my best way of getting tickets?
Your best bet if you don’t want to pay £60 each for memberships is to try and get them on here. Alternatively you could wait for general sale but the club is keeping general sale tickets limited to the final week before the game so it’s a risk, especially as you need 3 tickets together.

If I'm honest I do find losing easier, but I don't think that's a bad thing, if anything I'm enjoying supporting Leicester more than I did.
Before the title win a loss would certainly put me in a bad mood for the day, if not ruin the weekend! But since winning the PL and reaching the CL QF's I feel we've experienced something incredibly magical and I feel lucky to have been there to witness it. Ultimately this means I am content and find myself dealing with losing better, and I feel able to actually enjoy the football more as I don't constantly fret as much about the final result.

Anyone had their packs through yet? I am sure I saw on social media quite a few days back now that they were getting James Maddison and Ben Chilwell to record short videos describing what was in the packs, so I assumed they were ready to go out. Just a bit concerned as our letterbox is tiny, so the postman normally leaves parcels in our open porch.
No not yet. I did ask the club a couple of weeks ago when we would receive these and was told the end of the month.

To be honest I'm not sure what I would have done following the sending off. For me Morgan has to take responsibility because he's experienced enough to know better, but he should have been replaced as soon as he was on a final warning. Everyone around me could see he was in serious trouble and unfortunately as soon as he was sent off we were almost waiting for the inevitable.
For me Puel did everything how I would have done after the sending off, but he should have made a change beforehand that would have meant there was no need to be in that reactionary situation.

£120 for this LCFC Adidas Adult's Stadium Parka coat is such a rip off? What do we guys think? How can they rip the fans off in the winter months with such a flimsy coat? £80-85 is more than enough for it! I was shocked to see the price of this when I walked into the fanstore yesterday for a roam after the game! Just because it's Adidas! Ripping us off!
It is what it is unfortunately and it’s the same up and down the country. I promise you our club isn’t the worst.
I work for a University and last year I volunteered to take a group of new international students for a tour at old Trafford, and honestly the prices for some of the crap on sale there were eye watering. However, these students were paying it without a second thought because it’s a way of buying into the club you support. People need to realise rightly or wrongly football clubs are businesses, with the retail division often actually run seperately to the football side of things, so if people are willing to buy a £120 coat they’ll be selling it.

Cool. Thanks for that. I might have to give them a ring then as I don’t live in Leicester to collect. I assume the fan store takes orders over the phone too.

Absolutely class from Watford today, makes me proud to be part of a wider football community. It’s nice to know that the rough reputation football fans can have is evidently largely unjustified. The last few weeks have demonstrated the vast majority of us really are a decent bunch. Thank you Watford for today.
Also, what a great gesture from Vichai’s family to reciprocate the gesture. Just proves how special our owners are and I’m sure will continue to be.
