Don’t find it laughable at all, they have been shit. The manager has been shit. Everyone gets a bollocking and quite right. Players are protected like massive babies anyway, worse they cannot be sacked. Manager can and rightly was given the heave Ho. Yeah, it’s a fundamental part of the story/character development, and such a thing would be difficult to portray for a character who is the protagonist I reckon.
