You're bang on, in principle, but this is the kind of shit you leave yourself open to if you delay a FFP decision over years by using mitigation to delay it when you are bang to rights.
We will still have to defend it and courts of laws are tricky places.
I mean some people say they regretted winning the Premier League, I regret winning the Championship a lot more, the thinking we'd stay up after getting straight back up it probably the highest, albeit in a long list, of failings by this ownership, along with the idelogy that all of these financial irregulations would continue to go away because we were to big to face them and bouncing between leagues.
We should have consolidated and rebuilt properly.
Agree with you that the way they've handled it is so bad and takes the term papering over the cracks to a whole new level. Rudkin is still showing no signs of changing either. I expect them to have offered Martin plenty of money to operate way beyond our means again.
But, as we are seeing now, there wasn't time for a big rebuild. They needed to get out straight away. It's just a shame they thought they needed to do it with signings with money we didn't have.

If you get angry that Winks is still here, just remember Coady was probably on the same terms and got an additional year extension after we got promored so not only did we likely subsidise his wages last season but will also this season too.
Winks was reported as 60 risking to 90k with promotion and Coady 50k. Still hideous wages to be handing out for the Championship and to give a player like Coady an extension when he didn't even play that often in the league below.
I sit in a dark room every night and think about every aspect of this decline. I can't remember the last time I bothered to heat up baked beans. Straight from the tin on the floor. Wife left me, took the kids. Still, least we have Martin.

This might seem pedantic to some but given this is the first appointment since we brought in McCarron and supposedly restructured, it annoys me that it doesn't say "confirmed as the new First Team Head Coach."
If we still think he's the manager we haven't learned a lot.
Martin wouldn't accept a job in League One without being firmly involved in recruitment.
Rudkin still being here is all you need to see if you're judging how much we have learned. While he is here it will always be about operating beyond our means to the point where we just can't any more.

Thank him for what? Being an abject failure.
You usually get the complementary thanks for your hard work. Don't get uptight with me man.

Read most of the stuff put out by the club - Only reference to being in League 1 is that he played us in 07.
Nothing about looking to get out the league , some guff about telling players what the expectations are and energy.
Also I'm no professional footballer so not really my place to say. But to call a playing career covering Wycombe, Posh, Norwich, Rangers, Walsall and Milton Keynes "distinguished" seems quite a stretch.
This was something I found noticeable. It is so reminiscent of when Enzo got the job in the Championship in the way we are acting with this. From memory though Enzo did at least acknowledge where we were, albeit to say we should never be a Championship club.
Rudkin flaunting the Championship trophy that time round at that parade really irked me. A division we should never have been in at the time and got back out with a Premier League squad that spent money we didn't have.
All the same mistakes are being made this time and yet again Rudkin is there smiling away like he's achieving something.

Didn't even thank him. Ouch.
It's funny considering they were absolutely going to give him next season if they missed out on their first few targets. As is usually the case.
-
I might be reading too much into it but the fact Martin repeatedly goes on about the season ticket sales means Rudkin is probably going round Seagrave bragging about it like it's another one of his achievements.
I expect it boastfully on his Linkedin alongside Vertu Trophy round of 16 by the end of the year.

Want to see that pointless set piece coach Hughes gone. Don't care so much about Kingy sticking about but his inability to condition coach us in a position Jon Rudkin put him in those early weeks last pre season definitely ****ed us a bit.
Think Martin needs to bring an assistant, Goalkeeping coach, and a first team coach. Can't half arse this shit interfering insisting on shit like "keep Begovic onnnnn".

If Martin fails this season, this would be the most embarrassing appointment in our history.
The only upside to that is that for many be is already the most embarrassing appointment in our history.
If it does fail you can guarantee the like of @RedSoxUK will be telling us he just needed 7 years to implement his style in order to beat *checks notes* Mansfield and Notts County.

Why do people keep saying this his best finish in league 1 was 13th with a team that got promoted immediately after he left. He has had 1 half successful season ever where he failed to get southampton automatic promotion every other season he has managed has been a complete disaster what about any of that makes people think he will be alright for league 1?
Anyone who doesn't believe in one way of playing, with no alternatives despite everyone being able to see how easy it is to play against, is basically gaslit into being told they're a dinosaur.

Not a chance he's taken this without being promised money by the way.
The Enzo scenario all over again. Give him the players he wants to make it look like all is well. Tell him at Christmas that there's actually a massive financial hole so from now on he won't have any money.
Report record losses. Forever have articles about points deductions. Rinse and repeat. Never learn KPFC.

Hate him but think he will get us promoted tbh.
This is pretty much my only hope. I'm now resigned for football I hate but just hope we will be too good for the division in same way Enzo's squad was before he was found out.
Then hopefully he's sacked early on in Championship. We can only hope.

Lineker mentioned on his podcast the other week he'd had Lucy Pinder round for dinner "amongst others". I wonder whether Russell was also there.
He's had him on The Rest Is Football too.
You know he's going to be all over this appointment.
Didn't he recommend Emma Hayes last to them because we would "sell all our season tickets" after we'd of course sold all our season tickets for the last 12 years.

Tielemans, we definitely scouted before Puel.
Puel also wanted to bomb Vardy out.
Lot of revisionism going on here.
He wasn’t the worst we’ve ever had and he impeccably managed the situation when Vichai passed. But we underperformed while being very boring, he setup Rodger’s very nicely.
You're right but I think there was definitely instructions from Rudkin to try and phase the title winners out quickly.
I'd put Rodgers down as one of the most catastrophic managers in our history for the damage he left but he made a lot of good calls early on and the likes of Kasper, Vardy and Morgan all had respect for him. Which they clearly didn't for Puel.

Oh we have enough of them "I don't care about England I don't" types who will be willing to show everyone just how much they don't by travelling there first class on Ausden Clark's finest.

Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager

I'm not a fan of Martin but in fairness our fans have destroyed basically anyone who's ever been a success at this club at some point.
