Why do people keep saying this his best finish in league 1 was 13th with a team that got promoted immediately after he left. He has had 1 half successful season ever where he failed to get southampton automatic promotion every other season he has managed has been a complete disaster what about any of that makes people think he will be alright for league 1?

Anyone who doesn't believe in one way of playing, with no alternatives despite everyone being able to see how easy it is to play against, is basically gaslit into being told they're a dinosaur.

Hate him but think he will get us promoted tbh.

This is pretty much my only hope. I'm now resigned for football I hate but just hope we will be too good for the division in same way Enzo's squad was before he was found out.

Then hopefully he's sacked early on in Championship. We can only hope.

Lineker mentioned on his podcast the other week he'd had Lucy Pinder round for dinner "amongst others". I wonder whether Russell was also there.

He's had him on The Rest Is Football too.

You know he's going to be all over this appointment.

Didn't he recommend Emma Hayes last to them because we would "sell all our season tickets" after we'd of course sold all our season tickets for the last 12 years.

Tielemans, we definitely scouted before Puel.

Puel also wanted to bomb Vardy out.

Lot of revisionism going on here.

He wasn’t the worst we’ve ever had and he impeccably managed the situation when Vichai passed. But we underperformed while being very boring, he setup Rodger’s very nicely.

You're right but I think there was definitely instructions from Rudkin to try and phase the title winners out quickly.

I'd put Rodgers down as one of the most catastrophic managers in our history for the damage he left but he made a lot of good calls early on and the likes of Kasper, Vardy and Morgan all had respect for him. Which they clearly didn't for Puel.

World Cup semi final evening that. Could potentially be no one there if England finish second in the group and get through to the semi's lol

Oh we have enough of them "I don't care about England I don't" types who will be willing to show everyone just how much they don't by travelling there first class on Ausden Clark's finest.

You're forgetting that 'aura' of his.

I bet Russell Martin's got an almighty bastard of an aura about him too. Thank god for having a chairman who can spot that sort of thing.

Definitely only appointed Van Nistelrooy because 2 of his 4 games in charge of Man Utd were beating us easily

And Top's really strange obsession with so called big names in charge.

Well he's definitely been told as he's removed us from his bio lol

    What a disappointment he was.

The comments on his Instagram post in Mallorca probably made him do that 😂

  9. I just want to get out this division first time and I still think we will. I just can't deal with the coach 1 KPFC lot who'll think that vindicates everything about King Power, Rudkin and Martin if we do.

They'll probably even want a parade.

3 year deal and he won’t last 9 months. This club is a joke.

Can’t wait for the ‘we can’t afford to sack him’ posts in 6 months.

Has it ever actually been true either? Must have cost a fair wedge to sack Cooper and Marti but they didn't exactly hesitate.

  11. 3 minutes ago, EnderbyFox said:

Gotta think of the positives imo, when he's inevitably sacked before Christmas we never have to get linked with him again

You say this but I was told they were seriously considering Marti again after he told them he'd come back 😭

  12. Brentford want him now.

I don't want to sound entitled because it's great that teams like Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton can get to where they are by being run well.

But you can't help but feel like us more than anyone else have a right to feel like we should still be above them in the pecking order.

Fine - but who do you suggest we play? It may be unusual if we were still in the PL, or even the CL. But we're in League 1, and we've got a decimated squad. Not that that's my worry - glad to see most move on. But given the squad we've got at the moment, and being realistic, who do people on here complaining about it being Burton and Northampton seriously suggest we should be playing instead? Who'd have us too, more to the point?

The pre-season tours of SE Asia against PL sides have long long since gone.  CL teams like Millwall or Stoke or whatever generally want to play European or PL teams, who in turn are ok with playing a lower league club in a pre-season. Don't see many of them queuing up to play us. PL youth teams/academies? OK for technical prep may be, but I wouldn't have though great prep for League 1. Some have suggested a lower tier tour of Europe - Belgian Pro League or Eredivisie, but also look at the losses we've still got - still a pre tax loss of 71.1 million. In the context of over 180 mill lost in the last three seasons. People would only moan then that we don't have the money to spend on those tours.

It's not making excuses - it's a damning indictment of our present position, but one thing is for sure - "normal" pre-season it ain't. Anyone who's got the hump because they think we could and should do better is arguably more oblivious to where we are right now.

I get what you're saying, I said in itself booking a friendly with club in same division isn't the end of the world. But knowing how this club is run so badly, I just feel like this is another sign there's no organisation.

To me organisation would be keeping us up to date with news as many smaller clubs than us do. It would be the leaders putting everything else on hold in to get in Seagrave and sort it out from June 1st. A manager would be in place. They'd be involved with the pre season fixtures. We'd have 6 or 7 well thought out fixtures booked.

There's never any sign we are even attempting to do things right. A fixture like this isn't done by any other club and I just see it as another sign we haven't learned any lessons.

Having said all that, I'll be at Burton in July.

This is the way of the world with modern football. If he was a 4-4-2 merchant all the media would be portraying him as an old fashioned has been not fit for any club. But because he is mashup of all the possession styles, he is some sort of visionary who is either not given enough time, or just doesnt have the right tools at his disposal.

It's funny how the modern way with the philosophy of if plan A doesn't work, just do plan A better is seen as progressive. If a manager was like that 30 years ago they wouldn't last very long.

It's just yet more evidence, if any more were needed, that it's business as usual down there. You can here the turnkey machinery being cranked up, spluttering into life.

The managerless pre season bleep test socials.

    Play lower league Burton.

Arrange home glamour friendly against European team less well known than ourselves

Alienate half the playing staff, refuse low ball offers to sell them, and then reintroduce into squad on September 1st

    ...rinse and repeat

Exactly this. Yet we still have some absolutely oblivious and making excuses for all the obvious cracks again.

I can deal with the friendly with same division team if I thought the rest of the preparation would be well thought out. But this just stinks of the last few pre seasons again in a time we were promised a bit of change under a new structure.

The pre season under Cooper was a ****ing disaster. Likewise Maresca, but we just about survived that, all be it after a very slow start performance wise.

So if you're one of the ones saying same division team who cares, I think you should wake up a bit. It's another obvious going through the motions, no organisation, clueless decision that's going to yet again see us struggle unless something changes quickly.

Wasn't there one against Spurs in Thailand more recently? Can't remember if it got cancelled though cos of a storm or summink

Think everyone's forgetting we were already relegated by then. But it was planned as a Premier League club.

I think everyone's missing the point that those games abroad are to get money by giving them chance to see Premier League teams.

They don't arrange games with each other in England.

  17. 2 hours ago, AKCJ said:

Pretty sure we played multiple Premier League teams in friendlies when we were up there.

Granted they were abroad and more like exhibition matches but still.

I think the point is more we would be arranging this fixture 4-5 years ago to wheel out big Premier League players for a lower league club to get a bit of revenue.

We'll have far worse reminders of how far we have fallen than that, but each time they pop up it just makes me livid that we've all allowed it to happen.
