I don't disagree. But at the time I remember those few who suggested Rodgers should be sacked were rounded on by the majority who clearly didn't agree and believed he would turn things around. Of course, recollections may differ 😬
-
Indeed! His fans are very quiet these days 😲
-
Yep, I think that's right. And wasn't Rodgers son involved (maybe an agent)? All that takes time to unravel.
-
Definitely. Union FS were noticeably absent.

PSR works on a 3 year rolling cycle. Have a bad year financially (ie loose £30m in prize money) and it negatively impacts for the next 3 years. That's before you factor in the impact of the relegation (and subsequent lost revenue) itself. I've not defended Top anywhere but I'm amazed how much of a free pass Rodgers gets. Out of interest - what would you have wanted the owner to have done differently at the time, rather than with the benefit of hindsight? He couldn't put any more money in than he did thanks to PSR, so that's not an option. I remember people suggesting Rodgers should be sacked before he was (for example) and getting roundly shouted down.

Where's that then? A Premier League title win, two Championships, an FA Cup and a Community Shield? Not to mention a few European campaigns, including a semi final and a Champions League quarter final? The failure is down to one man. Rodgers. He got us relegated with a squad of players that no competent manager gets relegated with. Finishing 18th instead of 10th cost us £30m in prize money that season and f**ked PSR for 3 years as a result. Everything that's happened subsequently can be traced back to that. Ironically, that hit drops off the psr calculator next year but is irrelevant because of psr being scrapped.

It was also only £10 for a ticket, instead of £50 last night 🧐
-
It was a bit more than half full. 17-18k would be my guess.
-
Anyone in need of a ticket for tonight? Snow up north makes travel treacherous so season ticket in East Stand available. £27.50 face value.
-
It's clearly nothing to do with cash flow. As you say it's just a change in process with no appreciation of timing. Cock up rather than conspiracy.

People wanted Whelan out for no reason other than they wanted someone to blame for what's happened to the team. The old adage of 'careful what you wish for' seems to have been forgotten.
-
You don't think she wrote that herself do you?!

Spot on.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of how the club hierarchy works at LCFC. The DoF does not and never has reported the the CEO. He reports directly to the chairman, as does the CEO. They are equals rather than boss and subordinate. That means two things 1) she couldn't fire him and 2) she had no responsibility for footballing matters. Her role was strategic with responsibility for commercial and financial matters. It's always puzzled me why she gets stick. What happens on the footballing side is something she had no control over, or responsibility for. Financially, it was relegation #1 that sunk the ship. We lost £30m in merit payments that season, and missed PSR as a result by £29m. That is all on one man IMO - Rodgers. No competent manager gets us relegated with the squad we had in 2022/23. Rudkin's responsibly was giving him that stupidly expensive deal and not sacking him quickly enough. I also think that Rodgers (and other managers subsequently) had too much influence over transfers - leading to us over paying for players we subsequently didn't want. Whelan can be criticised for the BC Game deal but, if it was the best deal on the table at the time it's perhaps unfair, especially after the fact. Most football clubs are sponsored by betting companies and she's responsible for getting as much money in the door as she can. We'd all complain if she left millions on the table and then put up ticket prices to balance the books. And if she didn't get on with Rudkin, that's another factor in the plus column for me. I suspect she was the one keeping a rocking ship on the right path. In time, this may prove to be a really bad departure; and she won't be short of job offers.

Bilal El Khannouss (Stuttgart loan, official)
Sean2000 replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Transfer Talk
If that were true, we wouldn't have breached PSR as we wouldn't have made a loss. The fact is that we have consistently spent £35m a season more than we've brought in, and that has been funded solely by Top/King Power in the form of loans converted to equity. We've frequently funded cash flow through loans from Macquarie and doing so now makes even more sense because owners are no longer allowed to give interest free loans. -
The booing started when he came on. Embarrassing.
-
It's not 30k fans. It's a section of fans. The same section that are negative about everything the club does. The same fans who were booing after 45 minutes of the first game of the season. The same fans that are getting us labelled 'entitled' up and down the country. Faes is 100x the player they could ever hope to be and If they can't take the stick from him, they shouldn't give it out in the first place.
-
Except this saves us no money as we still have to pay off their contracts.
-
Home club sets the prices. No agreement from the away club required. That was done away with in 2017. I live near Manchester, but will be boycotting this. Scandalous from United.
-
No. Set by the home club.
-
Shhhh - you'll kibosh the sale 🤭

We had one space in the square anyway cos we only registered 24. Fatawu is out so that's 23. And Hamza on his way is 22. So this only comes into play if we've 4 players incoming and no one else leaving. -
The owners aren't allowed to put more money into the club as we're on the cusp of PSR already. Which means the owner is putting £35m a year into the first team, plus whatever they spend on women, youth, training ground etc. Accounts suggest it's nearer £100m a year total. We're where we are because Rodgers took a really talented squad of players and got them relegated. The psr problems stem from the subsequent loss of prize money. What do people think a change of ownership would mean in practical terms?

Newcastle 4 Leicester 0 Post Match Thread
Sean2000 replied to OntarioFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Newcastle had 20 shots on goal, 11 on target and an xG of 3.95. I know this is unpopular, but this result/performance is not on Ward. The midfield was non existent and the defence was left exposed time and time again. -
Yep. So you have to assume they knew?
