It becomes an issue because he was slow to accept the problem initially and then has been slow to find / implement a solution to it. And close season many fear that it isn’t being addressed / including by way of recruitment. To be fair there is still time for him to get someone in and sort the defence but many will reserve judgment until the season starts.

There has been a growing erosion of faith in Brendan which in part has been driven by performances / results but more so, some of his statements / failure to address inadequacies in the set-up. He doesn’t help himself. I think a growing section of fans see us slipping from a club pushing for Europe and becoming a middle ranked team. You can see that if the start to the season is slow that Brendan will increasingly come under pressure.

Worrying if we allow this. Would underline the poor decisions taken by the recruitment team in recent times and poor state of our financials. only sell for a premium.
-
Does seem short-sighted, with the potential wage surely a fraction of a new player and invites pressure should we continue to concede once the season begins.
-
Well if he doesn’t address it the situation sorts itself.

The return of Ndidi will help us with style of play as it means Youri (assuming he stays) or his replacement can focus on dictating play and picking passes. However we definitely need to bring in a RW to improve our assists / goals. Youri will be motivated if he stays with the WC. We just need to ensure we don’t get caught in the same drinkwater situation where he looks to move late in the window and we aren’t prepared. Where Brendan needs to earn his money is organizing the defence / dealing with set plays.

We need to be careful tho, if we don’t compete this year and regress we could lose one of Fofana and Madders who are our real elite assets with a tangible value. Madders is at main risk with 2 yrs left of his contract and hopefully we can extend this year.

Hopefully Brendan picks up on the fan base being unsettled, shakes off any complacency and moves heaven and earth to show us he is still a good manager - getting the team performing and finish top 7 and going deep in the cup competitions. He will struggle to get a better job IMO / certainly not a better paid job in the EPL if he fails. If he stinks out the place this season he will (probably) be binned so lots of reasons for him to deliver. and we need to perform otherwise keeping Little Wes and Madders will be impossible.

Trying to look on the positive side maybe the likes of Ben Nelson can step up and provide competition to Evans. we definitely need a creative RW - preferably on a permanent deal but maybe we are looking at the loan to buy market and this is the reason behind the delay. Hopefully Rudkin earns his keep and over the coming days delivers on getting a few out the door to make space for some incomings.

I thought there would be more interest in Cags. I saw Inter had an interest subject to selling Škriniar - But not many links beyond this. It appears his performance in the Euros and last season has really hurt his chances. -
Yes, really hope we can bring in a first XI RW. Daka can be a success but as you say needs the service.

Jordan Blackwell from the LM today reiterating need to move players out and I haven’t seen any strong links apart from Youri (which looks a late deal). Appears clear that the Club has a big issue with peripheral players on large wages who few want. looks like we may need to reintegrate likes of Praet and hope likes of Ben Nelson can come in and make an impact. -
With regards Daka and getting the best out of him does that require Brendan to change formation. Not sure single striker set-up suits the lad

Still 3 years on his contract so can’t see him going anywhere unless results fall off a cliff -

Definitely feels a bit of reinventing of history around the *rebuild* going on. Maybe there never was a real intention to move out several squad players and bring 3-4 in. Managers always want players and maybe Brendan has got caught out trying to force the Club to relax the purse strings. Expect he will get pelters for this if things don’t go to plan. Still think 1/2 will come in. Hopefully we will be relatively injury-free season and can push for top 7/8. -

Yes, agreed. We defo need CB cover for Evans - if he plays 30 games that will be a positive. Expect we are holding out for Chelsea to decide on Colwill. -
Madders’ contract defo needs looking at , so at very least we can maximise the transfer fee if we leaves in next 18 mths.

Seems that way , at least once they realise that De Jong ain’t happening. That could be a few weeks tho. Their recruitment team / DofF about as effective as ours.

Don’t disagree with the names you mention but we will struggle to move out Vestergaard based on wages , remaining contract and his performances last year. Cags and Youri appear the best chance of sales generating double digit fees, the others are more likely loan deals. the trouble with Youri is the interest appears from Clubs who want to conclude their other business first and so we may have to wait. Cags seems similar with Inter rumoured to have an interest once Škriniar is sold (PSG most likely). -

There were reports in the LM in May on this topic. Based on large wages what is our DofF doing to help facilitate outgoings. Likely only the usual transfer speculation but just linked by Alex Crook to Chelsea based on low release clause and ability to cover several positions. I agree Cornet is a good option for us. Hopefully we don’t leave it too long to get involved in some transfer business. -
Can definitely see Youri ending up at Yanited. I think both Arsenal and / or Yanited will come in for Youri late and think they can steal him for £20m. Hopefully we have our replacement lined up and we are good to go.
-
Hopefully not, but I can see the Masterplan for set pieces being Ndidi - we won’t concede with Wilf plus Wes and Evans. No need for a set piece coach or other recruits.
