Well, guess what, for your style of football you need certain quality players to implement it. You can't teach Shaq (back then) or Giannis to shoot 3 pointers in basketball, you adapt your game to the personnel you have. If you want to play in a certain way (your way) you get rid of all the players that can't do it by nature or skill or whatever. Beforehand you submit a plan to the board (3yr-5yr) and if they agree it's up to you to make it work. If you fail you resign.
