I was given A History of the World in 47 Borders for Christmas. It's a fascinating concept and generally well explained although (personally) I found some of the humour a bit irritating. Still, it's a different way of looking at the world from the perspectives of geography, statehoods and history.

I renewed my passport, just because my old one ran out, so no particular urgency. I was shocked (sadly - says a lot about my cynicism) by (a) how easy the process was; (b) how communicative the passport office was; and (c) how quickly I got the new document - ordered on Thursday 22 January, arrived 31 January. Good to know that some things work.
