It could be a whole lot worse

I think we are only the third team to do it after Reading and Newcastle.

So while the stat might be true, a sample of TWO doesn't provides statistical resilience.

However, we have under-achieved so far this season… but the season ain’t over yet.

Exactly. Just out of interest, in your opinion what would we have had to have done for us to have achieved this season?

Our tactics have been incredibly poor and we’ve not played to our players’ strengths.

It’s fairly telling that we’ve won our last two games only when we’ve changed from our original formation.

You’d have to search far and wide to find a top European coach who thinks  that 442 is a robust formation, especially when playing Away against superior teams…  yet we have played it time and time again.

In fact, if you look at most of our recent good performances, they have only happened after we’ve changed our tactics.

Tottenham in both league and cup. Everton Away. We only got decent results after changing things around. Man United away we had to make a substitution at half-time cos we’d been battered in the first half.

It’s actually hard to see a decent performance and result in which we’ve not had to change our tactics half-way through. That tells me that our tactics have been wrong to begin with.

I can understand why he played 4-4-2 at the beginning of the season, we played it a lot last year so i'g guessing Pearson, like others have suggested on this forum, tried to play what we know instead of trying to contain teams, obviously this didn't work.

IF we stay up, would we have achieved this season?
