foxfanazer Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 Nottingham forest are lining up a summer move for Bolton defender Matt Mills This got me thinking about how disappointed we have been this season but when you look at clubs with real problems it makes you realise we're in pretty good shape. We are a well run club with a good fan base, decent stadium, decent squad and half a chance of surviving.
Fox92 Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 There's no point in comparing to other clubs imo. People say "we could be a lot worse", are we going to use that term all the time? We're still bottom, and ok things have picked up and I've always had faith in Pearson, but the season has still been tough as a Leicester City fan regardless of every other club.
Babylon Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 but the season has still been tough as a Leicester City fan What were you expecting? We're now three points from safety and 17th place, which was probably the aim of most people at the start of the season. It was always going to be tough, if we stay up it will continue to be tough. I think people need to get used to losing a lot of games, it's never going to go away in this league.

That was taken slightly out of context in the light of the whole post but I knew it was going to be tough. I was talking in terms of certain performances and results.
shailen Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 It is Pearson's fault for delivering a season that broke all records. And we started this season so well. This season was always likely to be a relegation scrap and so it has proved. The position we are in now should be something we expected. Many of us including myself hoped for better, but we are where we were most likely to be at the start of the season. Anyone that remembers the football from 2004-2008 knows that we are miles away from ever being there again. The core of this team is really good. Yes it has been a poor season, and we have only just got back into touch but I don't think that we have underachieved massively. Fact is the three teams coming up are the three most likely to go down
hackneyfox Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 No team getting promoted with more than 100 points has ever finished lower than 13th. I'd happily take 17th now but we had every right to hope for better than that.

Last time I looked we were still bottom and still under Burnley. At this point in the season, I weren't expecting that.
Babylon Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 Ah..The old catch - all of 'what were you expecting?' Last time I looked we were still bottom and still under Burnley. At this point in the season, I weren't expecting that. First and foremost I wasn't speaking to you. So what you were expecting has nothing to do with the conversation. He said this season had been tough, I'll repeat it again... if someone wasn't expecting it to be tough then they have set themselves up for a fall before we even kick a ball. Whether we finish above them or below them is of no consequence to this discussion. Us finishing above them isn't suddenly going to turn it from a tough season into an easy one.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise threads implied only responding to certain individuals. I reiterate. .I agree.. I always said it was going to be difficult, particularly given some of our pre season signings. I also suggested I, for one, didn't expect to be bottom, sitting under Burnley.i doubt if people are honest, many did. I was simply moving the debate on a little which it was I thought people did in threads.

I did not expect us to be relegated and if we are it will have been a total failure of a season. The shape we were in when we went up should have been enough to build on for us to be safe, comfortably really. And as for 'it could be worse,' it will be worse if we don't stay up. Tough is one thing, but underachievement is another.
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 Anyone who expected a comfortable season is in cloud cuckoo land.
filbertway Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 It's easy at the start of the season for people to say, "I expect us to struggle and it's going to be a tough season. If safe come the end of the season it will be a great season" When faced with the actual reality of how bad you have to be, in comparison to other teams, to actually be in and around the relegation zone, it's not so easy to swallow for a lot of people it seems. We're one of 20 teams in the country playing in the top flight. There will be thousands of people that week in week out follow their teams to grounds with 1 stand and an attendance of 150-200. Watching dire football and their team end up in mid-table mediocrity. (Probably not all that relevant, but it can most certainly be a lot worse haha)

I think that's a fair point, I'm not sure a lot of people realised how few games you are likely to win. West Brom stayed up winning just 7 games, which we're one away from!

At this point in the season, I weren't expecting that. I think you’re being unfair. Things change quickly in football. Before the West Ham game I’d have agreed with you. 110%. We looked a long way past lost, and we were on course to be one of the worst teams in Premiership history. But that’s no longer the case. We’re 3 points from safety with a game in hand. I was expecting better than this, but I was also realistic enough to know we could be relegation trouble. It doesn’t change the fact that Pearson has had a piss-poor season so far. But so what? If he keeps us up, he’ll still be a tactical no-hoper, but he will have demonstrated world-class powers of motivation and belief. All we are saying, is give Pearson a chance.

dave_the_fox Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 I thought the red dogs had a transfer embargo ?
David Hankey Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 Of course we all knew it was going to be a tough season with such little transfer activity in the close season but I for one never expected that ending up 17th would be considered successful.

Staying up was the goal, if that's achieved then it's a success. Look how much cash the likes of Hull and Sunderland have spent and they are still struggling.
Ollie93 Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 Personally I believe we are in the strongest position out of all the clubs in the relegation "scrap". We have momentum, a group of players with passion. Not just football wise, but our club is well rub (ish), we are now debt free (I think) and just a lot better than we were 8-9 years a go. A successful season would be staying up. Then If we do, move and build from that.

filbertway Posted 15 April 2015 Posted 15 April 2015 I can't imagine any team that has gone up with that many points has had such a shoddy defence and not improved it. Pearson has cost us the chance of winning more points with his attempts at trying to protect the defence with ultra defensive game plans. I think if we had bought better in the window and brought our defence upto Premier League standard we'd have faired a lot better this season. (Captain obvious) I'd chalk it down to our management team's lack of nous at this level though. Next season if we stay up I imagine we will buy a lot better. I think the loaning of Huth in the Janurary window was a nod towards the criminal lack of activity in the summer.
