MooseBreath Posted 6 May 2015 Posted 6 May 2015 Could also be said that the Thai's were pulling Manderic's strings saying they wanted a 'name' manager before takeover & when that didn't work to get an even bigger 'name'. Then when that didn't work their complete lack of knowledge meant their recruitment list was former managers who'd done great work for us, so called O'Neill & Pearson. Even approaching O'Neill again during one of the team's bad runs who turned them down so they were forced to stop with Pearson Whatever, they have made correct decisions and they have stuck by a manager when most modern owners wouldn't. Maybe, but I think the fact that they kept Mandaric on as an advisor suggests he was still very influential. If the Thais were already pulling the strings before they even bought the club by insisting it had a name manager, then I doubt they would have seen any need to keep Mandaric on. Seems more likely to me that mandy appointed Sousa to help sell the club, and then advised over the appointment of sven (which to be fair was seen as a good appointment by most at the time). I don't think any speculation about what the owners have done or not done behind closed doors has any use because it's just that, speculation. We can only judge on what we know, and what we know is that they've made several good decisions suggestive that they're not quite as clueless about football as some want them to be.
Guest MattP Posted 6 May 2015 Posted 6 May 2015 I'd imagine Sousa was bought in by Mandaric to help flog the club, the ridiculous media effort of his mouthpiece Rob Tanner to remind us of his (irreleveant) champions league medals at every opportunity were a testimony to that. The Thai's were certainly influential in terms of the Sven appointment if his book is to be believed though, although that's debatable given Sven's history of telling the truth.
foxfanazer Posted 6 May 2015 Posted 6 May 2015 In terms of footballing reason how would it be a tough decision? Doesn't matter when you pick up the points to survive whether its in the first 10 or the last 10 games. Equally you could say in the first 5 and last 5 games we are worthy of Europe. Looking at the season as a whole if we stay up which is now looking likely then the objective has been achieved.I didn't say in terms of footballing reasons though
