Oh come on seriously, you could not expect him to go outside the dome, fair enough Bush is a **** but they have to put his security first, I just think it is a good thing he is even making and effort, of course it is for his own image.

And FYI it wasnt just 2 women there was all different sexes, ages and races there.

I am no supporter of Bush but at least he is patriotic and TRIES showing some interest unlike Mr Blair!

Think about the 2 highlighted bits there. If he wanted to show enough interest, then DO IT, not panda to the media coverage with half hearted sorries.

Hes the most powerfull person on the planet, and he cant stand outside the new orlean dome

He didnt do so, because he wouldnt look good, as simple as.

Im afriad its all about looking good, than BEINg good these days :(

I jus think that is quite honourable actually being down with them, and it means alot to the people, he was talking to everyone and helping hand out food etc. Could you see Blair doing that?

The one thing that you cannot take away from Bush is he is a classic American and thats why they love him!

Well for a sincere man it certainly took him a long time to arrive and, secondly, he never got anywhere near the

real dramas - stayed in the air was what I heard.

What I am trying to say is at least he made AN EFFORT, most leaders just make a statement and stand back - ahem Tony Blair.

The emergency services should be the ones blamed, what is one mans presence going to do to help?

Posted

Yeh it totally agree with you. But as the most powerful man in the world he has to be proteted, hell I wouldnt even go outside the dome and im nothing to anyone there!

How the hell can the most powerfull man in the world, be at threat in any one street in his own country, i dont get it.

I cannot answer that, but as you know well, not everyone has the same beliefs and not everone supports him. Also America is full of physcos who, as we have seen before, have no regard for human life.

This does not jus go for Bush it goes for leaders everywhere, no leader in the world had 100% support, and no leader could handle a situation like this with 100% accuracy!

First America doesn't have a monopoly on the World's psychos and it is no more full of them than anywhere else. Indeed the human race seems pretty badly flawed all round when it comes to people who disregard other people's welbeing and other people's existence.

You've mentioned Blair and to some extent the two deserve to be linked together for the countless innocent lives their (in Blair's case probably illegal) war has cost but, though I detest the fork-tongued Blair both his and the nation's rescue response at the time of the London bombings was something to be proud of.

Bush should have taken the lead and taken the responsibility for New Orleans from the start. His military resources could easily have dealt with and "psychos" as you call em and could have swiftly organised proper distribution of aid etc.

Calmness and professionalism is what's needed in a crisis, not absence and indecision.

Abraham Lincoln. J F Kennedy. Ronald Reagan (survived but still shot at0)

There are also many high profile politicians celebrities and peace leaders that have been the target of assassins. Some do it for a cause others to get their name in history books.

Hope that answers your question.

Kanye West Ruins NBC Relief Show, declares "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Lets face it, 67% of the people living in new orleans are black, by the time some new orleans have fled the hurricane, its quite possible 87% of those stranded are black, so bush must be racist for not helping soon enough?

Things that have occured since monday. Rape (one girl of SEVEN reported), violent street gangs roaming the streets, looting, crack cocaine adiction violence etc etc that the media darnt expose.

An educated guess suggests that 87% of these wicked crimes, were caused by black people.

I just hate it when black celebrities jump on the race card bandwagon, because they see black people being the victim. Maybe they should take a step back and consider how their black brothers and sisters are behaving criminally?

All that said, i think there right about bush, he seems racist to me, but that doesnt quantify the crimes black people have comitted. Vote the focker out, thats democracy, not going on national tv to ask (force) white people into submission of race guilt.

I think people are jumping on the anti-Bush bandwagon in light of hurricane Katrina because of a personal dislike for the man. I am not fully versed in American politics, but my understanding is that the local and state authorities are the first line in organising and protecting their state. Each state has a certain level of autonomy. It is the local and state level authorities that have failed massively. True, the federal level have been slow to act when it was clear that the state authorities had failed so dismally, but to blame Bush outright is a convenient way of venting anti-Iraq feelings.

With regards Kanye West, he is an utter moron and has probably set-back race relations after his little outburst than furthering them and improving them. When will "rap-stars" realise that actually, they're not the brightest and should spend more time reading and learning, rather than shouting their mouth off? The way I see it, Mr West has a chance to be a positive role-model and leader for his community. Instead of being a thinker and good role-model, he is just an angry thug who shouts his mouth off and comes across as such.

Excellent post, I totally agree, Bush cannot be blamed outright, the local emergency services have been shocking and with regards to Kanye West saying that is just plain stupid, if any discrimination is happening dont think its because of colour but more because of wealth i.e. the area is poorer and beacuse many dont have cars the authorities didnt no how to handle any evacuations.

I dont mean this in a racist way at all but Black people are very paranoid and always bring the race card in to it.

You'd think Kanye West's ill-informed remark ("George Bush doesn't care about black people": Newsbusters link) would be enough to illustrate how misguided it is to politicize a serious fundraiser. But MSNBC's blogger for the NBC/Red Cross event, Mike Miller, could not restrain himself as well. Is it that hard for some people to set aside political differences for just one hour in order to raise some money for some people who are really hurting? From Mike Miller's blog at MSNBC.com, in which he gave a chronological, running commentary of the event (emphasis mine):

5:41: ... "George Bush doesn't care about black people," West said. Myers turns to him and clearly has no idea what to say ...

5:54: Still can't believe Kanye West ripped Bush. That was great.

"Great"? What was great about it? West's view is flat-out wrong. As President, Bush has given tremendous support to Africans and African-Americans. Here's what Bob Geldof, the LiveAid and Live8 organizer, told Time magazine in June (emphasis mine):

GELDOF: [T]oday I had to defend the Bush Administration in France again. They refuse to accept, because of their political ideology, that he has actually done more than any American President for Africa. But it's empirically so. (Time magazine, June 27, 2005 (link))

This truth is also in addition to the fact that President Bush has appointed a number of African-Americans to important cabinet positions in his administration.

Also: "Homeownership among African Americans is at its highest rate ever" (link).

"Doesn't care"?? I'm afraid it might be Kanye who should care to look at some facts!

America and Bush reacted badly to the New Orleons catastrophe and I have detailed how and why already but I don't think race had anything to do with it. There were thousands of white people needed aid too, for a start.

It's just that (just like with the looting, the gang violence, the drug-crazed assaults etc) people will seek to take advantage of the situation in this instance by by playing the race card. It happens here, too.

And it is one of the reasons multiculturism is so difficult - because there are those who don't want it at any price and who will manipulate the various factions against it (to their own ends of course).

A quick off the subject slightly post.

On 5 Live last night they spoke to a british person that phoned the british Embassy in California (I think) and was told to phone the local British Embassy for help.

'But its 50 feet under water'

Sorry its not in our area'

Wherever you are and whatever has happened there will always be questions on what was/not done and statements that more should have been done. Way of the world.

I agree with that 100%, its a shame that people are so shallow though and use a tragedy like this to bring up their own issues and beliefs. At the end of the day they are all Americans and the last thing Bush wants is to be seen as racist!!

Yeah i agree with the anti-bush thing. had he just taken out sadam, and left the iraqis to sort their freedom out themselves, people would be saying, well he was on holiday when this hurricane happened, and he cut it short to deal with it.

Im not a bush fan.

I saw the clip of kanye west when he said, "bush is a racist". he was on a stage, and standing next to him was Mike myers ("wayne" from waynes world) and he turned to him astonished of what he said. It was clearly incitement to racial hatred, and on national tv  i dont think the media will pick-up on that, do you?
