For those that have "Connolly 8" on their shirt.......

Recommended Posts

Erm so does that mean I can have my shirt with Dickov on the the back changed? Because as in the same situation as Craig when Dickov said personally he was going nowhere (Remember Connolly kept quiet on whether he was staying or going it was Tim Davies who said he was going nowhere) I had his name put on my back, so same situation different player - It was a few seasons ago now and they shirt has changed but does it mean I can get my shirt changed?

Didn't think it would...Shame when it happens ain't it Craig? Your lucky your able to change your shirt - Well Done ;)

Shame the club can't be consistant...

There was a notice up where the letter printing area a few month saying it is not the clubs responsibilty - wheres that policy gone?

I'm think the club we're peer pressured into this descision. I thought the club we're still in money trouble? There must be thousands of shirts with connolly on the back, £35 or whatever shirts cost per however many returns theres are plus whatever the name "Connolly - 8" costs (Which i'm guessing is not cheep because Connolly isn't exactly a short name is it?) the club could have saved a fair bit of money if they had not took this descision.

To be fair tho Matt, your shirt would have been out of date wether he stayed or left because of the premiership numbering ;)

I think it's an excellent gesture, I don't see any conflict or 'can of worms' opening up. This is a 'special' case as the season has only just started, the shirts were available very early om and they are only for one year. As for the costs, peanuts when you take into account the cost price of the shirts and lettering, football shirts must have one of the biggest mark ups after petrol. Cheap material, cheap to make, probably in China and minimal marketing costs. you can then pretty much exclude all none match attending foxiles who purchased. It will encourage some doubters to attend a game just so they can get their shirt changed.

A sensible bit of fan/customer relationship building, call it cynical if you like on behalf of the club and boy do they need it.

Well I do see a can of worms opening up, thats why I said it. People are already complaining as to why they arent allowed to have their shirts exchanged for a recently departed player. Its a brave move by the club and I applaud them for doing it but as always some people wont be happy.

Exactly, it's setting a precedent. Whilst it's a fantastic gesture from the club, fans tend to have good long-term memories; will the club be doing this every time someone leaves? If not, the Club will be harshly criticised for ti, especially if they have done it before.

I actually started the thread about this, and this is a response thread, I think that this is being misinterpreted I'm sure The LCFC website should make it clear who can claim an exchange.

It would be for the people who have purchased the NEW kit as stipulated on the O/S (JJB branded) not an older Kit as this would be a nightmare to control.

The same gesture actually happen with the burgundy Arsenal kit and Patrick Viera, fans were allowed to exchange the NEW kit for a replacement.

I think its a sizeable gesture for LCFC to replace NEW kits with printing on the back, and maybe JJB have supplied LCFC free of charge for this reason as they make the kits and are linked to WIGWAM.

-----------

Giving the Old Kit to an overseas charity is a very good Idea, and well done to TD for thinking of this.... with New Orleans being the first one I can think of, maybe this could be made into a really good exercise in fan relation.

FOXES TRUST get on the case, also maybe a shirt drop (i have 2 old tops that could benefit someone) at one of the home games that we could send accross to the homeless in the states?

come on guys lets do something positive!

Great ideas - Gives us the opportunity to gain thousands of potential fans (albeit across the pond) and it gives them that little bit of hope that people ARE willing to help them

I agree something we could take the lead on as far as a football club is concerned

FOXES TRUST!, and if you do get your finger out then remember who thought of the idea, remember us when you get all the accolades!

Obviously the shirts don't cost much to the club and they probably have a number of how many shirts have Connolly 8 on the back.

Our club is very much a business and I don't think they would be stupid enough to make a big loss from this.

I also look forward to seeing Ethiopians with Connolly 8 Leicester shirts on :P

This gesture is both generous to those concerned and measured in terms of cost.

The club will know exactly how many shirts have been printed with Connolly 8 on and the costs associated with meeting the replacements. I suspect that as others have said, JJB will be footing the bill.

However, every time there is a kit change at the beginning of a season, it might be prudent to not get your favourite player's name printed on the shirt until the transfer window passes.

That is of course excepting Jase who will always be a legend.

The cynical side of me (shock horror) thinks that Tim Davies bought a couple of new shirts with 8 Connolly on the back for his kids, now he feels like a prat and wants to get them swapped for free, but he has to do it for everyone (and not just his kids) otherwise there will be an uproar.

Anyway, it's a nice gesture from the club, although from a business point of view they will probably be losing quite a bit of money.

A couple of youth shirts would cost £60 or so, I doubt that's really gonna break the bank in the Davies household so much that he has to come up with an elaborate plan which is gonna lose the club a lot less than £60.
