There are "plastic" fans, there's no denying it. If we had been relegated last season then our numbers would have dropped in terms of season ticket sales. There's no doubt that people did only buy a season ticket because we were in the premier league. However that did, and still does fill the stadium and now creates a very good atmosphere.

Anyway before I go off on too much of a tangent. People who go to games when they can aren't plastic. Only once in the last 21 years have I not had a season ticket, my circumstances had changed and something had to be sacrificed, unfortunately it was that. I missed it way too much though and couldn't give it up forever. That doesn't make me more of a supporter, it doesn't make me bigger or better, it just makes me more fortunate. I'm lucky I can afford it. I'm lucky I can fit my work around it. I'm lucky I have a missus that wants me out of the house every other week. I used to go to a lot of away games, I've travelled up and down the country. Just because I had a snowball fight at Walsall, just because we mocked the guy in the fake Liverpool shirt at Cheltenham, got soaked at Maine Road and celebrated like crazy at Barnsley because we thought the win there should have been enough for us to stay up doesn't make me a better fan, just makes me lucky again!

Undoubtedly those who taste the lows are better fans than those who just want the highs. But that doesn't mean you have to be there, it just means you take great interest in us. If you don't know who Brian Carey or Jamie Lawrence are then you're plastic, or not old enough. If you don't know who Josh Low is or don't remember Barry Hayes then you're plastic.
