Guest CityFan 06 Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Hi all, I'm currently applying for apprenticeships but it's proving to not be an easy task. I've applied for around eight but four of those I've either 'not met the requirements' or the actual company has 'taken down' it's original job availability. So to the actual question, does anyone on here have links or work for companies who actively offer apprenticeships within the area of Leicester/Leicestershire? I'm looking for a role in Office Admin or Marketing. Just thought it's worth a try if anyone does have some information that will be of use to me. As a second question, do you have any tips on the application process, what to say, what looks good, how to come across etc. Thank you.

davieG Posted 11 May 2016 Posted 11 May 2016 When I used to recruit apprentices the one thing that continually let people down was their total ignorance of the organisation's business and they were always the first to be cut, with the web there's no excuse for this. What you need to bear in mind is that nearly all the applicants will have met the minimum requirements of the job spec so you need to ensure that you do nothing to distract from your application like spelling, bad dress sense and a boring personal profile. You need to catch the eye of the interviewer so any previous experiences like jobs, social and neighbourhood care, scouts etc will always go down well. Again if space or time permits try to give an indication of your involvement and its relevance to the job. At the same time it's important to not ramble on either writing or speaking. Obviously the most important aspect is yourself, the interviewer will want to like you and your impact in the first few words / minutes could make or break you. Hope that helps.

Thank you davieG for this, much appreciated. Nice to have some personal advice from a person who has recruited apprentices before https://www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk/apprenticeshipsearch Cheers Webbo!
