Anish Posted 1 October 2005 Posted 1 October 2005 Wirral rubbish a bit obvious and corny though. I liked when he was showing off the tropy cabinet. 'But there's nothing in it' 'Ah that's what we won, the trophy cabinet.' It wasn't rip rouring funny but there were a couple of moments 'You took Newcastle down in succesive seasons' 'Yes but I cut down on the wage bill' 'Only because all the best players left.' Sounds familiar? shame I missed it - Thursday nights are football so I doubt I'll see it much anyway
City Fan Posted 1 October 2005 Posted 1 October 2005 I enjoyed it a lot and the preview for next week looks pretty good. I chuckled a few times and was better than I expected, because I was expecting it to be quite pants. The film is probably one of my favourite every films!
davieG Posted 1 October 2005 Posted 1 October 2005 Mildly amusing, predictably clichéd, so much has happened for real in the world of football it’s very difficult to be original. It’s one of those programmes where you need to build up a rapport with, and understanding of the characters to get any real humour out of it.
Rincewind Posted 1 October 2005 Posted 1 October 2005 The thing is many of the gags you can imagine being used by football fans already on various footie messageboards when slagging off theirs/others teams. May be a good thing if some fans can associate with something at their level of humour. (whatever that is) That's why Wirrell Rubbish hit a nerve with some. Just in case the viewer doesn't realise that Mike Bassett's team is no Chelsea the program makers gives a little hint with the sponsor name.
