Rincewind Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I went in the Queen Victoriaa (Leicester not Walford) the other day and overheard an interesting conversation. Someone was talking about a bloke they knew who resigned from a £2000 plus PW job because they had nothing to do all day but sit behind a desk. Think it was Charnwood/Loubough council and he complained that jobs were not being done. Don't know about anybody else but I'd be happy to be paid two grand a week for doing bugger all.
Benji Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 depends how long he had been working there on that salary for a few years he'd have plenty enough to live off for the rest of his life, not including if he got another job i find money is so much better spent when you work for it, and without that attitude england would struggle to be as successful as it is

You got one life. Might as well do something with it. It's like being paid a fortune to play for Chelsea and then having to spend all or most of the season on the bench. Not for me whatever they paid.
Katy Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Its all about taking pride in your work, it would be ok for so long to do that but in the end you have to question "why the hell am I here?"
Birdy Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I'm getting paid a nice amount for doing not much more than that, but i'm giving it up to get a proper job. Going to be training to be a midwife in January...YAY!
cisono Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I feel I am a bit in this situation right now. I have to decide between a job that is going to pay well but I am not sure how much I will enjoy and find gratifying and another job which is really interesting but may not quite pay well enough for me to live on it in the long run. (OK, there is a third option, one that is really shitty work but gives you money and prestige. I think I am not going for that anyway) The more I look around, the more I see there is a two-tier system in the job market, with (most) jobs falling into either category. Where are the rewarding but well-paid jobs? If anyone finds them, please do let me know!
