Fattest Player

You're all showing our youth again!!!. I was just old enough at the time (1957 I think) to see the back end of Arthur Rowley's career in a Leicester City shirt.

Arthur was a prolific scorer (one of the most prolific ever as I recall though I'm sure someone could turn up the statistics for confirmation) but he was no stick insect and his record owed very little to subtlety from what I saw.

He and Pressman must have been about the same size so, not surprisingly, Rowley was known for his thunderbolt shooting and from pretty well anywhere within sight of goal.

It was all he was renowned for. Not his passing, no fancy tricks, just his single minded focus on scoring goals with boot or head, and, in the days of much heavier footballs, especially in wet weather, anyone who could belt em in from 35 yards like Rowley had power and to spare.

Second only to Arthur Chandler in City's aggregate scoring charts according to LCFC.com: A career total of 434 League goals from 619 games, and he also has the record for most scored goals in one season, namely 39 in the 1952/53 campaign

yes, who is Leicester City's all time fattest player?

Gerry, Marshall, Rab Douglas?????

As a university student myself, I just have to ask for a clarification:

What do you mean by fattest?

Heaviest or having (apparent) highest BMI ratio?

Or something else?

Rab is certainly heavy, but I wouldn't really call him fat! :P

(and not just because he might not like that)

I think it's by apparent BMI - who looks like they ate all the pies.

Jari Rantanen was about 17 stone, if I remember correctly. Had a good partnership with Mike Newell for about half a season under Pleat or Hamilton. He even had his shorts specially made for him.

I can't think of a heavier player at City. Jari was more in the brick sh1thouse mould than Piemaster-General Pressman or Feeley the Binman.

Incidentally, I think Andy Feeley was one of the youngest ever players to captain a pro side in England (Hereford, aged 17 - if memory serves).

I thought I was the only one who remembered him! :D
