Steven Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 From the OS. Gilbert On Target In Wales Win Peter Gilbert was on the scoresheet as Wales U21s gained a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Tuesday night. The Leicester left-back, who joined the Foxes from Plymouth Argyle over the summer, finished off a productive evening for Brian Flynn's side when he fired home with six minutes of the game remaining. Gilbert was also involved in the move that produced the opening goal on the night, and he will now return to the Walkers Stadium hoping to push for a place in Craig Levein's first team squad. Meanwhile, Alan Sheehan did not make it onto the pitch as the Republic of Ireland U21s went down 1-0 at the hands of Switzerland at Tolka Park. Source
Hitesh Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 So only 1 left back in action... But he did play well apparently!
Thracian Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 From the OS. Source There you go again. No Sheehan. No win. They must be bloody well off for a left back.

Thracian Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 Does that suggest you think he's better than Sheehan?
Benji Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 i think they are equal, both have their drawbacks but can quite easily find positives about them both. But as a leicester academy kid, sheehan gets the attention and thus everything gilbert does is, and i personally think unfairly, criticised.

In fact I think being an Academy kid makes it harder for Sheehan. Levein has forked out £300,000 for Gilbert which is a lot of money to City especially if he's not in the team. Much easier to leave Sheehan out financially and politically. Trouble is both I, and the overwhelming majority of fans who replied to the poll, reckon Sheehan is already City's best left back. This sort of situation willl be a major headache for the manager. Sooner rather than later, people like Chambers, Dodds and Wesolowski will also be hammering on the door of the first team and the trick will be to pick the strongest side AND keep everyone happy. Nice sort of problem though.
cisono Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 Does that suggest you think he's better than Sheehan? (By far) not enough data to draw that conclusion, for sure!
