Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Posted 15 October 2005 So, im having a problem with my Windows media player, and yes, i know im the Computer Science student but i have tried everything! Basically, its installed on the computer and i can see it in Program Files but every time i double click the icon, nothing happens! Nothing loads in the task manager as well! I have cleaned the registry and reinstalled, checked for adware, spyware, viruses etc!! But still nothing...so has anyone else had this problem or anyone got any ideas on how to solve it? And no, im not using Winamp...its annoying!
Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 ' date='Oct 15 2005, 06:47 PM' post='195656'] Use iTunes. hmm...could do but i also use Windows media to watch some movies and also for when im using internet videos! Like the Wallace and Grommit video that Mr C posted. I cant see that at all! Good point, although you could just use DIVX player or Real Player for that if Media Player keeps **** up. Try downloading the setup file from the website and just installing it again, that' what I usually do if things fock up.
Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 iv tried that, it was the first thing i did. I uninstalled and reinstalled 9 and it had the same problem. So i uninstalled, downloaded the setup.exe from the site and i still have the same problem. I have asked on the forums but they are a load of bollox!
Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 Time for a reformat of your PC thats what i think too...but this was a last chance type of thing. But i cant do a reformat because there is too much stuff on my comp and i have know where to store it while i re-format!

Havn't you got a cd burner or a ipod or something? you can use ipods as like a removable storage drive.
Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 I did have a DVD-writer on my PC at home, but this PC only has a CD burner! And i have an MP3/Data storage thing but thats only 1GB. And i have about 40GB worth of stuff on my computer. I might go out and buy a portable hard drive or a DVD writer, but im tight on funds atm!

Hitesh Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 One of the pitfalls of alcohol not quite. its the books and the accomodation and fees! The books i need are ranging from £35 - £60 each! So atm, im going easy on the alcohol and clubbing just so i can get some of these books. Even the second hand books are going for £30!!

Get yourself a second hard drive, format that with your operating system and other basics and keep the original for storage - that's what I had done when my previous PC went up the swanee, Mrs G has it now for writing music.

The reason why you are contemplating this, is because WMP does not work on your machine. Is it worth it.

I have that actually...(its not my comp so im not totally sure) but i know there are two drives. one with all the programs on and the other for "other stuff". Now if its been split from one drive then i cant re-format, but if its two drives then i could just re-format one drive being the OS one! ....surely?? The reason why you are contemplating this, is because WMP does not work on your machine. Is it worth it. True, and i was thinking that but good old Microsoft, being the monopoly they are seem to integrate a lot of their products with WMP and as do a lot of internet sites so it would requier a lot of hassle jsut formatting/changing settings to play music and vids in other programs, and therefore being as much hassle as the method above!

Not quite - you'll only have one physical hard drive (which is probably more than 130gb) but it has a partition on it - meaning that My Computer shows 2 hard drives e.g C: and D: (as the case may be). I doubt you'd be able to reformat one drive without formatting the other.

I have Real Player and itunes at the moment and Windows Media Classic works and the movies work on there so its all good atm.
