FilbertFrog Posted 11 December 2018 Posted 11 December 2018 Khun Vichai was an extremely generous man and gave so much to all of us and the community we live in. It got me thinking how we could honour this great man at Christmas a time of giving , after much thinking I thought it would be nice if we Honoured his memory this and maybe every Christmas with a charitable donation to a local charity in the spirit of Generosity that Khun Vichai showed through his whole life. I’m hoping many of you will join me in honouring his wonderful legacy and amazing generosity. £5 each would make a huge difference to many local charities , I have chosen Rainbows Hospice and have made a donation today in his honour. Please join me in honouring this great mans memory through the spirit of giving. Feel free to post or tell us about your donations
Guest Posted 11 December 2018 Posted 11 December 2018 Vichai was a very very rich man and his charitable donations would have been used for tax avoidance techniques as well as charitable donations. I think it's a lovely idea you've had but simply giving to charity would suffice. I think it would be a good idea to make your £5 donation to Mark and this site, to show how much you appreciate his work and our community. I've made mine, let's cheer Mark up this Christmas (and who knows he may even lift posting limits on all posters ).

I seriously doubt avoiding tax was in Vichai's thoughts when donating to charity, and to suggest as much on zero basis is highly disrespectful. Tax benefits may have been a by-product but they were not a motivation. Regardless, there's no need at all to mention it. I'll donate something to a local charity if I'm able, not necessarily in Vichai's memory, but certainly following his example as I'm sure he would have done the same.

It is better to give to charity than to the taxman. If I could save on tax by giving x amount to charity every month out of my salary and it means I have about the same take home pay, it would be a no brainer. There is a difference between tax avoidance by hiding money or sticking money elsewhere and giving to charity. Not sure the original post was a dig at using that technique but rather an explanation of how it was done.
dyanmark Posted 11 December 2018 Posted 11 December 2018 Giving to a charity does not by any means equal any tax avoidance -to even think that is pretty stupid bit like saying buy company cars saves tax it doesn't. KP are billionaires that is thousands of millions made mainly in Thailand . so 30000 bottles at beer at 50p is petty cash. When thinking charity think reputation ,standing in the community ,status,as well as philanthropy.
