Anish Posted 29 October 2005 Posted 29 October 2005 To those that went, however many of you were there - post your ratings. Douglas 6 - thought he was very lucky to get away with not conceding a penalty, he definitely did touch their striker (Johnson) and was slow to come out to the ball. Johnson was looking for the peno and got harshly booked for it, but another ref could easily have given the penalty. Johansson 7 - more solid at LB than previously. Still offers nothing going forward, but he did well in restricting Preston's attack through the right flank. McCarthy 8 MOTM* - didn't put a foot wrong imo. Solid and reliable. The diabolical ref gave freekicks against him for no good reason at all. Gerrbrand 7.5 - first time I've seen him play since Inter. Was very impressed. Did nothing wrong defensively and tried to play the ball from the back (although his distribution went awry at times). Keep him in. Maybury 6.5 - not great going forward, but was pretty solid at the back. Sylla 6 - inconsistency personified. So frustrating to watch, he does well one minute and then completely does your head in another. Please please beat the first man when you cross the ball!!!! Joey 6 - not up to standard for Joey. First half was pretty poor although improved a lot in the second. Had a couple of great efforts and he was the only one who looked interested in supporting the attackers in the second half. Kisnorbo 5 - sorry but we needed somebody who could pass and move today, Kisnorbo was not the man. He looks poor on the ball, always chooses the wrong pass, never goes forward or makes any movement off the ball. Offered nothing today. Joey and Kisnorbo together will not supply or create goals, Craig. Hammill 5 - pretty woeful today. Nothing came off. Not helped by his centre midfielders but still did nothing positive. De Vries 5 - awful performance, reminiscent of last season. And the fact that he was captain too Hume 5.5 - did very little either. Had no support but he had a great chance in the first half which he should have done MUCH better with. Subs: Elvis N/a Dublin 7 - very impressed when he came on. I've not liked Dublin up front for a very long time but today he rolled back the years. Looked so composed and assured on the ball, always held it up well and layed it off nicely. Much better than De Vries. Smith 6.5 - did well at times, looked off the pace a bit though. He could have been a bit more confident in his ability by taking the player on instead on releasing it early, but still much better than Hammill. Should start the next match.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 October 2005 Posted 29 October 2005 Disappointing to read that about Kisnorbo and de Vries, who I thought were outstanding against Watford. We can't seem to play Joey and Kisnorbo together, in much the same way that over the summer people were saying we couldn't play Hughes and Williams together. de Vries is an enigma. Eight goals and yet some people still think he is absolutely dreadful. Just general points, didn't go to today's game. Smith must start at Plymouth really. Will be interesting to see the rest of the starting line-up too. Big decisions to be made.
The People's Hero Posted 29 October 2005 Posted 29 October 2005 Away from home Levein is happy with a point. Preferably a nil nil. That seems to be the immovable hurdle. Very frustrating.
Nationwider Posted 29 October 2005 Posted 29 October 2005 Douglas 5 - I don't feel confident about the guy Johansson 5 - Solid in defence, rubbish going forwards McCarthy 6 - Decent match Gerrbrand 7 - Very encouraging, my MOTM. Maybury 6 - Solid, a bit dozy at times Sylla 6 - he's always going to be this maddening, isn't he? Joey 6 - most likely to score (worryingly) Kisnorbo 5 - ran a lot, but didn't do much with the ball Hamill 4 - didn't look like anyone (himself included) has much confidence in him De Vries 5 - not at his "finest" today Hume 5 - good effort, but not much doing today Subs: Elvis 6 - added a bit when he came on Dublin 7 - held the line well Smith 6 - looks good, needs a full 90. I'm content with a point, I thought we might have nicked it. Trying to pull some positives from the game, I though the centre-backs were good together, and the three subs all acquitted themselves well. We would have won this with Hughes in the side, and Smith in from the off.
Samu Posted 30 October 2005 Posted 30 October 2005 Right here are my ratings: Douglas 7: Didn't have a great deal to do but did nothing wrong. Wasn't sure whether it was a penalty, I initially thought he'd dived, would have to see the replay. Maybury 7: Solid enough, a couple of slightly nervous moments on the ball but steady defending throughout the game. McCarthy 8 (MOM): Like I've said in a previous thread we should make this guy captain. He was very commanding today, won all his headers and between him and Gerrbrand didn't allow Preston any great chances. He also has the passion-getting better all the time Gerrbrand 8: First time I'd seen him and thought he was pretty impressive. A couple of great touches on the ball, he did seem fairly composed on the ball despite a couple of misplaced passes. Quite tall as well which is always an asset. Johannson 7: Steady as you like really. I thought the whole defense played very well today, just let down by the attacking side of the team. Hamill 4: Poor really, never got in the game. Had the ball a couple of times in good positions and lost the ball. Was very suprised he didn't come off straight after half time, why Levein waited a few minutes into the half to introduce Smith I'll never know. Gudjohnsen 6.5: Like Anish said anonymous in the first half but dramatically improved when Dublin and Smith were introduced with a decent free kick and 2 or 3 good long rangers. Kisnorbo 5: Thought he was very quiet in the first half but did ok nevertheless. Second half I thought he was poor. The only aspect of his game I do like is that he's good in the air. I mean he has much more chance of winning balls from goal kicks than De Vries does. Sylla 5.5: Sometimes looked good, other times not so much so. Frustrating really. De Vries 4: Very poor. Didn't help that the referee seemed to have something against him from the start. His only real contribution wa setting up Hume in the 1st half. Hume 6.5: Worked so hard but really didn't get as much support as he needed. Having said that did miss 2 decent chances. Subs: Dublin 7.5: Was awesome, held the ball up and flicked it on just as De Vries hadn't for the rest of the game, really lifted the game for the last 20 mins. Wish he had played all the match as it might have been a different story Smith 7: Very good, some fantastic touches and moments of genious. However in the first 10 minutes he was on he barely touched the ball and I feel we haven't even seen anything of him yet. Not gonna be the best person at getting back to help defend but still, looked class. Hammond 6: No time really to impress Overall a pretty dire game but based on this perfomance I say the team Levein should put out in future should be along the lines of: Douglas Stearman/Maybury (difficult to pick between these 2) Gerrbrand McCarthy (these 2 central defenders should continue playing together, they've kept 2 clean sheets and will build a partnership if Levein sticks with them) Johanson (Sheehan for the future) Sylla Hughes Joey Smith Dublin Hume

Solihullfox Posted 30 October 2005 Posted 30 October 2005 Don't disagree with your ratings Anish. Too many poor performances yesterday to warrant CL saying we are still going forward. The game was as enjoyable as having teeth pulled ! By the way Anish, you sat next to Claymore yesterday. The guy next to him was ME. Hello !
