Just mentioned it in my previous post. Long ball route 1 football, requiring a battering ram up front. Very different to our current requirements.

As you said, he didn't half do it well though.

My apologies - only just seen your last post

Poll is flawed as binary options. If its to play the number 9 role when Vardy is out then its Nacho. If its support striker on right then Perez gets the nod.

Neither can replace Vardy as very different skill sets. I struggle to see where Perez fits in to be honest and personally I think Nacho has a more complimentary skill set to support existing core midfield and needs a fair run in the team.

Not totally Perez was picked yo play as a goal scoring 9, and always assumed Perez was deployed as a withdrawn forward offering the out balls to cutting in wide forwards, i.e.; Barnes and Under.

Firmly believe this approach could work, but no doubt it would take an amount of work equivalent to what we have spent in getting to where we are with the lone 9 who has primary goal scoring responsibilities

However, I very much enjoyed watching Kelechi last night, and I am only too happy to be considered wrong and that a more Vardy type role could be retained with a more suitable person, Kelechi in this instance.

Fair enough. I think the Firminho role could work, but it requires 2 very direct and fast goal scoring wingers. It also requires a ‘false 9’  who is creative and full of imaginative flair (with exceptional ability in terms of shielding the ball and playing penetrative passes). I haven’t seen this player in Perez being completely honest.

My frustration on this is when people seemed to suggest that just dropping deep and making space for others (on its own) constitutes playing this role well. This is only a tiny aspect of the false 9 role. As an aside I think a false 9 is probably best suited to a totally dominant side who are looking to pull well organised defences around to create spaces (Liverpool, City, Barca).

Finally, I think you maybe missed some of Kel’s link up play. He was not deployed like Vardy as a player solely to stretch defences and score goals. Instead he played a hybrid role, sometimes dropping deep, but sometimes looking ‘in behind’.

The second goal vs Fulham was the best best example of with drawn forward play I have seen from us recently. Kel showed strength, skill, vision to break the line and create space for players to run beyond. One of the most pleasing goals I’ve seen of late. That is why people were naturally comparing his overall contribution to Perez - they were essentially playing different roles in the same positions - one was far more effective.
