EmLeee Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 Graphics this morning, which was really bad because we hadn't been taught half the things on the paper - our groups had 4 different teachers in less than 2 years. Took a history one this afternoon. 2 hours in silence I got so bored I didn't answer the last 2 questions. My best mate actually fell asleep... twice What's the point?

Hmm probably just so that the school can say "we did do our best to prepare them: mock exams etc" [i'm soooo cynical about education these days]
Matt Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 Graphics this morning, which was really bad because we hadn't been taught half the things on the paper - our groups had 4 different teachers in less than 2 years. Took a history one this afternoon. 2 hours in silence I got so bored I didn't answer the last 2 questions. My best mate actually fell asleep... twice What's the point? Story of my whole School life....And not one of my teacher gave a flying fock about what I did because I was one of the thick ones, Why didn't the teacher or school give a fock about people like me? Because all they wanna see is the good grades in exams, so they work harder on the brighter kids... Cheers School! Left School, and NEVER looked back! What are the mock exams for? G.C.S.E? Good Look. Loved Exam time, Didn't care about what results I got because I had nothing I needed especially for college, and I already had planned what I wanted to do for the future, so I loved exam time, time of school, with the odd exam! Brilliant!...Then you hear about all the attempted suicides, due to stress...why? Exams aren't the end of the world!
Cat Burger Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 Mock exams are worth it trust me! It lessens the feeling of anxiety when you sit them for real! You can't underestimate the value of preparation, there's no feeling like after you've done an exam and you knew EXACTLY what you were doing!
Muz Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 I fudged my GCSE's up this year. Still got a job at Peugeot , got an apprenticeship with them and Im earning £500 a month. Canny Grumble.
Matt Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 I fudged my GCSE's up this year. Still got a job at Peugeot , got an apprenticeship with them and Im earning £500 a month. Canny Grumble. Exactly! Not gonna go on like I have done in the past about the differences of people going uni/further education and "you should do an apprenticeship", e.t.c because I have said it enough times already, but I am 18, in a full time job, learning are career (For LIFE) earning £600 (Thats basic without Overtime and at my place you can do as much overtime as you want), and I am the thick one out of all my mates from school...I'm the "thick" one, however what are they doing? The went to 6th form from school, they left 6th form because they didn't like it, so now they ain't got a clue what they want to do, and they are working part-time in a supermarket moaning that "I'm skint"...£600 in full time work for an 18 year is pretty shit, but for an apprentice it ain't bad, In a year possibly 2 years time I will be earning £8 per hour, thats £80 a day, £400 a week, £1600 a month, thats basic pay, without overtime and i'll be 19/20...Not bad! No doubt Muz is in a pretty similar position! You do need education, but exams, education, e.t.c...is not everything.

Im in almost the same position. 3 of my mates stayed on at 6th form , two have now dropped out in the space of a few months. One of them is working at Wilko's and the other working part time at a golf club. A few of my other mates are in a plumbing apprenticeship they are'nt getting the same money as me , but its a trade for life if they hit it off. The two that left 6th Form are clever , but now they're moaning when we go out , Oh I aint got no money lend us this lend us that ect. I never got worked up about Exams , I tried my best but was'nt really over intrested.

My grandma was the brightest person I knew, but she admitted when it came to exams she couldn't do them, she never got worked up with exams but when it come to them her mind went blank (She said) The best people can't do exams, I am thick, and I can't do exams, who cares, I'm alright, I'm getting through life so far, I'm earning plenty of money! Exams are pointless! The G.C.S.E's were a waste of 2 years for me, Every school in my town did a thing called "nova", except my school of course, In this Nova thing you took a day maybe 2 days out of your school week and went to college to do short course's in Carpentry/Joinery, Car Mechanics, Electrics, Plumbing, e.t.c, But no in my school to do the Nova course you had to be naughty, expelled, suspended, e.t.c...what example is that setting? I ain't a bad lad, so I was punished by staying at school to do my G.C.S.E's, why? I knew I wanted to do a trade, It would have been more beneficial for me...Nah the school wanted grades, but I didn't give them grades did I?!

I got offered a job at the local council , an apprenticeship going 2 days a week. But , when the council rang school and asked them if I could do that , they said No 'cos I had never been in serious trouble at school. WTF is with that. My mum told me to smack the head teacher then he'll let me go on the course , never did though
Hitesh Posted 26 November 2005 Posted 26 November 2005 GCSE's are EASY!!! AS Level - Harder A Level - Easier Degree - Hard if you dont keep on top of work....and on that note...CISONO: Can you help me with my Binary work please!
cisono Posted 26 November 2005 Posted 26 November 2005 CISONO: Can you help me with my Binary work please! Mock exams ... been doing self-testing every day for the last two weeks. Don't particularly like that but I hate the upcoming exam even more, particularly since I have to pay to take it!!! Hitesh: How can I help?

You can't underestimate the value of preparation, there's no feeling like after you've done an exam and you knew EXACTLY what you were doing! I agree, PROVIDED they are done properly. But, from what Emsie-Lou was saying, it doesn't look like hers have been prepared carefully enough this time round!
