Best local record shop ?

As a DJ I was wondering if anybody else knows of any good independent record shops away from HMV, Virgin etc ???

I'm afraid the best independent shops appear to be in Nottingham. 'Funky Monkey' Records is fantastically cheap for vinyl - especially chill/downtempo stuff - whilst selection of Electronica and Indie in Select-a-Disc is brilliant and cheap. . Plus, chaps in Funky Monkey know what they're talking about and are forever recommending stuff.

Any other good shops locally??? I've heard Left Legged Pineapple in Loughborough is supposed to be good too !!!

LLP is/was fantastic for new and 2nd hand stuff. I have to admit I've not been there for ages, but the staff always used to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

The Daddy of all indies IMO, is Select-a-Disc because of its sheer size. I used to go there with me school mates and spend 3-4 hours a time, and £Â£Ã‚£s there. Its the only thing I will conceed that Notts has over Leicester.

I've not been to Funky Monkey, but I'd like to have a butchers sometime. Sheffield is a brilliant place for 2nd hand CD shops, if you're up there.

Can't believe Select-a-Disc is still going, I thought they'd have been snapped up by one of the biggies by now!

In the 70's I bought all my Northern Soul records there. All we had in Leicester was Revolver which was ok for chart music but nothing else!

BTW, the LLP staff used to give away demos they got sent for free. I got some rather groovy, if obscure electronica (Scanner, Black Dog etc) from them.

Rough Trade records is just off Covent Garden. It is a HUGE independent record shop.

Also there are plenty of bargins kicking about Camden market, but that is not what it once was.
