Portsmouth After..........................

McLeish :)

Rangers have refused Portsmouth permission to speak to manager Alex McLeish.

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric revealed on Monday that he had made an approach to the Scottish champions for McLeish as he searches for a new manager at Fratton Park.

Mandaric is actively working on finding a new manager to replace Alain Perrin and made approaches for McLeish and Sheffield United's Neil Warnock.

McLeish has endured a difficult time at Ibrox in the last month with the club experiencing the worst form in their history.

The former Scottish international's future at Rangers is far from certain with Gers chairman David Murray set to review his position in December.

However, Murray has backed McLeish and refused to grant Pompey permission to speak to McLeish.

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain confirmed the club had turned down the approach from Portsmouth.

"We can confirm that we have received an approach by Portsmouth Football Club asking for permission to hold talks with our manager Alex McLeish. Permission was not granted," Bain told the club's official website.

It always seemed unlikely that Rangers would be willing to let McLeish leave with a crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Internazionale coming up next month.

Portsmouth are now awaiting an answer from Sheffield United to see if they can open talks with Warnock over the vacant managerial position.

something for the "levein out " brigade to ponder who a) feel anyone could do a better job,b) there are dozens of top managers out there c) we could attract anyone we want

Premiership club with millionaire owner looks at Colin (about to take Sheff Utd down the table to their customary position in the play-off places where they will fail yet again) and McLeish ( will be out on his ear before the Christmas decorations come down) and er.. that's it (apart from the bloke with the lop-sided face who they sacked last season!)
