Gené and Tonic Posted 9 January 2006 Posted 9 January 2006 ---------------------henderson------------------ -Stearman--Gerrbrand-McCarthy--New signing -New Signing--Williams--Hughes----Smith ----------------Hammond-Fryatt------------ That's my prefered first 11 at the minute. Hughes and Williams would work in tandem with each other. Both would be given strict instructions that, if one goes, one holds. This would obviously require Williams to get stuck in and receive a little extra training on how to tackle, same with Hughes. There is one major dead weight in our side at the moment, and that is Sylla. The sooner he is sold the better. A good team to play would be Hughes on the wing with Gudjonsson in the middle, but a natural, pacy winger who is good at crossing and dribbling would be great. I just find it a mighty shame that Levein hasn't gone for Matty Piper on loan, but you never know, Levein may see sense and bring him here on the cheap in the summer. Sheehan is our only natural left back at the club at the moment, yet he is inexperienced and Levein seems reluctant to play him. Maybury isn't too impressive in that role, neither is Johansson or Kisnorbo. My choice would be Sam Ricketts of Swansea, but he may cost us more than other options. The 1 mill from Wigan in the summer would cover it I'm sure! So this is what i think should happen at the club through Jan and into the summer: Stay Up! Sign a right winger Sell Sylla Sell Douglas Sign a good young keeper Sign a natural left back who Levein will play Hopefully get Smith on loan for another year! Wishful thinking eh?
ithuriel Posted 9 January 2006 Posted 9 January 2006 i would play elvis on the right wing and hume upfront. we only really have sheehan who is a leftback so that position needs filling urgently.
Gené and Tonic Posted 9 January 2006 Author Posted 9 January 2006 On current performances yes. Also he is stronger and would be able to hold the ball up better than Hume imo.
Milky Posted 9 January 2006 Posted 9 January 2006 no joey G ??????? he's arguably been the best player this season so far
breadandcheese Posted 9 January 2006 Posted 9 January 2006 After last night's result, I think we have all wondered at some point why we cannot play like that every week. The fact is, if we did, we would be coasting this league. So the question is how many players do we need and what our best lineup would be. If de Vries played like that everygame, I would play him upfront with Fryatt. Otherwise, I would try Hammond with Fryatt (similar to yourself LCFC_826). Admittedly, I am no footballing expert, but I could not see Hume and Fryatt developing into a great partnership. I feel the attack would be too lightweight. So one possibility could be to start playing Hume as a right winger. Only the small problem of ousting Hughes from that spot, however, he could well prove more effective than he has been for us thus far. Our midfield last night was immense with Smith, Williams, Gudjonsson and Hughes. I hope that is the midfield we stick with.

sam_lcfc Posted 9 January 2006 Posted 9 January 2006 no joey G ??????? he's arguably been the best player this season so far I agree completely...although rumour has it he's off anyway. but got to be hughesy and joey in the middle of the park. i also read in some unrelaible papers that we are after Russel Hoult as short-term cover for douglas in goal. I reckon hume on the right as well some other ppl have been saying. The partnerships upfront will be hammond/de vries with Hume/Fryatt...but i still think after last night hammond and de vries could do a job together...i think defensively is our biggest concern however, lennon destroyed maybury last night and sheehan wouldnt have done much better.
