Nationwider Posted 3 February 2006 Posted 3 February 2006 It's on tonight on C4. Never seen it before - although I'm not sure if the version that they're showing is the original or the recent remake. Does anyone know which it is - and is either worth watching?
Tommy Posted 3 February 2006 Posted 3 February 2006 Its the original they are showing tonight mate (1974), and furthermore, I reccomend you watching it, unless you are of a sqeaumish disposition.

Well, I watched it. I can't say that its either good or bad - it sort of defies classification. I can see where it gets its classic status from - and why it was so influential in terms the films that borrow from it. The first hour or so is quite sleazy and tense - typical B-movie stuff. You think you know what's going to happen and are just waiting for it to be unleashed. The last third of the film is the most depraved, ****ed up piece of cinema I've ever seen. It's impressive because it doesn't try to be slick or clever. There's no plot or reason for what happens - it just does. I'd recommend it as well. It's not scary - its just very, very raw and full-on.

It does have a certain rawness to it and almost seems to lose its direction (plot-wise) about half way through. Having said that... as I said - I enjoyed it. Watched 'Wonder Boys' a few nights ago, can highly recommend it - very entertaining. Have also recently seen Munich and Memoirs of a Geisha at the cinema. Both are fairly drawn out affairs which seem to lose the plot a bit in the middle before pulling it together at the end - ish. Both mediocre.

The People's Hero Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 1972 Olympics (Munich) the Iranian olympic team was taken hostage. A botched attempt at saving them through empty negotiations and poor use of sharpshooters (who weren't sharpshooters) led to the hostages being killed. The organisation concerned was the Black September terrorist organisation. The film mainly concerns the attempts to seek revenge on Black September terrorist group by the Iranian Gov. The film is okay - has a lot of Spielberg's favoured action sequences and many of his trademark plot omissions... a lot of stuff is unexplained, completely overlooked or just left out.

Darth Fox Posted 6 February 2006 Posted 6 February 2006 I thought the remake was better. Easier on the eye(Jessica Biel) and a little less depraved.

The People's Hero Posted 6 February 2006 Posted 6 February 2006 Iranian?????? Sorry - quite right. I had Iranian on the brain, because of work. In fact, it's still something which is dragging on - I've never thought about Iran so much!
