Seagrave_Blueboy Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Having just got back and having time to reflect on the game on the way home, i am overall pretty pleased. OK i know we should have won comfortably with the good opportunities we created, but the team is looking more like a good footballing side. However i think that hughes was a weak link tonight. He did run for the cause but he did not put a strong foot into one challenge tonight and i thought looked pretty poor. What do you think?

That would mean keeping Sylla in, and that could be...errr.....risky.

I thought he covered a lot of ground being the more defensive midfielder allowing Joey to go forward. I think he did put his foot in a few times, wasn't he booked, he was certainly warned by the ref. It's seems to me the whole team are trying to be a bit more prudent with their tackling hopefully trying to reduce the number of bookings. I thought the ref was pretty good tonight allowing the game to flow more often than not.
martyn Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Hughes is a good player, although he is the sort who you feel the game drifts by sometimes. Definitely worth persisting with, he's still young and has had various injury problems to overcome.

He played some nice touches and although he's not really one to put the foot in, he knows this, and instead goes between the player with possesion and the goal, and hassles hard.

Maybes Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 surely Sylla looked the weak link tonight? Momo Sylla this evening has proved he has no worth to our team. He is plain awful.
The Reverend Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Hughes was poor tonight but is a good player none the less and we should persist with him. He was pretty non-existent though. We definitely missed Weso. At times, it looked as though we had no midfiel near the end of the second half.

We definitely missed Weso. At times, it looked as though we had no midfiel near the end of the second half. Don't entirely agree and I'm sure the Derby coach was concerned about our midfield that's why he replaced a striker with a midfielder after 30ish minute and went to 451. You're right about late on the second half but not just the midfield the whole team was absolutely knackered, probably a result of the bug.
TrickyTrev Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Your having a bubble right? Hughes' movement is second to none in the team and his off the ball run created the space for the second goal and he nearly bagged one for himself int he second half. His work rate is exceptional and whilst he is not the strongrst tackler he does nto shirk responsibility. He can also pass the ball which is a novel concept for a Liecestr midfielder. Joey, depsite two brilliant passes for Maybury, had a much worse game tonight!

Played the simple balls well but did nothing really that impressed me.

I think that's right - they were ofetn exposed and just looking to kill the game then

I didn't say eh played well tonight, although I think to call him "poor" is beyond harsh. He was better than Joey by quite a long way. I think people miss a lot of what he does because they don't appreciate the value of movement and moving the ball on quickly. He is the complete anti-thesis of a player liek Dev Vries who slows every move down by taking too many touches and is absaloutely stationary meaning he is very easy to mark.
Swedging Posted 14 February 2006 Posted 14 February 2006 Played the simple balls well but did nothing really that impressed me. Agh. Playing the simple balls well is so important. If only Smithy would learn to do it! Plus he runs so well, creating space and options. Sometimes, he seems like the only one of the midfield who does this; though Maybury did it today and Twatto can when he's not totally demented.

He's been a disappointment for me all season but nothing like as bad as Sylla...who made one important tackle in our penalty area, put in one decent cross and generally looked lost. He never attacked the ball at all tonight, he forever got caught in possession, his head is invariably down instead of up I honestly cannot think of a good word to say about him, out of position or not.
AyewJoking Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 Thats why I would give him a free role with no responsibilities but to attack. Thing is, we need everyone to be a grafter at the moment.

I totaly agree about smith, he does well to get into the box, and them doesnt have a scooby doo what to do with it when he gets in there. Hes scared to have a shot.
Jamesino_LCFC Posted 15 February 2006 Posted 15 February 2006 To be honest I thought Gudjohnson was a but up and down, not Hughes. I noticed a few times Hughesy would lose to ball but run and run to get it back, which is always great to see.
