Ric Flair Posted 22 February 2006 Posted 22 February 2006 Will Chambo be playing for the England U-16s tonight? I read on the FA website that he's in the squad that travelled to Belgium for a friendly. I just want to add that if the club wants to hang on to some of its best youngsters e.g. Stearman, Wesolowksi, Chambers, etc it is important to try and clinch promotion because after a point the player will want to play at the highest level possible. Yes but they will also need and want to prove themselves at this level first. There's no point moving to a bigger club if you haven't got enough about you to command a first team place and the only way you can do that is to play regularly at your current club and play well. Stearman and Wesolowski have proved that they are more than good enough at this level, but both seem to be level headed and want to prove themselves here before even thinking about furthering their careers.

Oh, I agree....I wasn't saying that they'll want to leave right away. But once Stearman turns 23, and if he's established himself as one of the best defenders in the Championship (assuming no promotion), he might want to make the step up to Premiership football and there will be little Leicester could do to hold on to him.

I agree, but that's inevitable and we would receive a good price for him ala Dawson who went to Spurs. I'd hate to see the lad go, but if we don't get promoted within the next 2 or 3 seasons then he'll leave. He is a Leicester fan though and that could keep him here for the forseable future as he wants to establish himself here first.
