davieG Posted 26 February 2006 Share Posted 26 February 2006 From Sky Sven Goran Eriksson has announced a 23-man squad for Wednesday's friendly with Uruguay at Anfield.Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Peter Crouch have all been given the chance to impress in an England shirt at their home ground, while Manchester United's Gary Neville earns a recall after injury. Red Devils team-mate Wes Brown is the surprise inclusion in Eriksson's squad. The United defender has not featured for his country since last summer's tour of the United States. Kieran Richardson and Darren Bent are promoted back to the full set-up after recently turning out for the Under-21s. The full squad: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Robert Green (Norwich), David James (Man City), Luke Young (Charlton), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Ledley King (Tottenham), Gary Neville (Man Utd), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), David Beckham (Real Madrid), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Michael Carrick (Tottenham), Kieran Richardson (Man Utd), Darren Bent (Charlton), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Peter Crouch (Liverpool) & Jermain Defoe (Tottenham). davieG Posted 26 February 2006 Author Share Posted 26 February 2006 Anyone else concerned about the quality of our defence. Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Robert Green (Norwich), - Not having a very good season David James (Man City), - Never instills confidence Luke Young (Charlton), - Average Premiership quality ? Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), - If he's that good why is he not playing for Chelsea John Terry (Chelsea), - although not having his best moments just lately Wes Brown (Man Utd), - Is he in the squad just necause he's ManU, Does anyone else rate him? Ferdinand (Man Utd), - Can he be arsed? Ledley King (Tottenham), - Good player, but Defender or Midfielder ? Gary Neville (Man Utd), - Good full back, but not my favourite person Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), - A very versatile & quality back up.
Jay Posted 26 February 2006 Share Posted 26 February 2006 same old same old then nu surprises from Sven I would have hoped for 1or2 not so obvious choices like Kevin Nolan so that he can have a look at them but he doesn't seem bothered about looking at anyone else and just picks the same players he always does!!! as for Wes Brown you are spot on with that if he didn't play for manure he wouldn't be in the squad
The People's Hero Posted 26 February 2006 Share Posted 26 February 2006 Wes Brown isn't bad, but is certainly not international quality and will more than likely be injured anyway, knowing him.

Given that SGE (and everyone else) knows his starting XI, it seems a little ridiculous to play the certs like Gerrard and Beckham when they have so much domestic football to play. Hopefully Darren Bent will get his chance.
