Molson Canadian Posted 6 March 2006 Posted 6 March 2006 From Skysports http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=36...s+McAuley+swoop Sunderland are preparing a raid for Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley. The Lincoln City centre half will be out of contract during the summer, and The Wearsiders are now in pole position to sign him amidst interest from a variety of clubs including Cardiff City and Leicester City. McAuley could be drafted in as a replacement for the injury-prone Stephen Wright, as he is also comfortable playing at right back, and it is thought that his versatility is what first attracted the attention of Mick McCarthy. Crewe boss Dario Gradi wanted to sign the 26-year-old during the transfer window, although the £150,000 move stalled due to a row over agents' fees, and McAuley recently landed himself in hot water at Sincil Bank by questioning the League Two outfit's ambition. Sunderland assistant manager Ian Evans was at a snowbound Windsor Park to watch the stopper in Northern Ireland's 1-0 win over Estonia on Wednesday, and it is understood that he was impressed enough to prepare for another look when The Imps were scheduled to play Carlisle on Saturday. The match failed to beat the freeze, however, but McCarthy will continue keeping tabs on a player he tried to sign over two years ago when he initially left Coleraine to link up with City.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 March 2006 Posted 6 March 2006 Sunderland are preparing a raid for Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley. Or they were before they sacked McCarthy...
lookwhaticando Posted 6 March 2006 Posted 6 March 2006 McCarthy must be taking over at Lincoln! Or perhaps Derby - maybe he can relegate two teams in a season, now that would be special
Molson Canadian Posted 6 March 2006 Author Posted 6 March 2006 maybe we have chance of getting him now that McCarthy has lost his job
Head Honcho Posted 6 March 2006 Posted 6 March 2006 maybe we have chance of getting him now that McCarthy has lost his job I think we looked at him before Christmas and decided he wasn't for us!
Thracian Posted 6 March 2006 Posted 6 March 2006 And the other question is, will Andy Welsh be recalled after 28 days?.
