Gené and Tonic Posted 15 March 2006 Share Posted 15 March 2006 Leeds have beaten off a host of clubs to sign striker Jermaine Beckford from non-league Wealdstone. The 22-year-old has scored 35 goals in 40 games for the Ryman Premier League outfit this season and the clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee. Manager Kevin Blackwell told the club's website: "It's nearly done and we are delighted to have signed Jermaine." Southampton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Watford were all linked with a move for the centre forward. Blackwell admitted that chairman Ken Bates was keen to mine the lower leagues for talent. He said: "The chairman thinks there are one or two nuggets in the lower leagues and he wants us to try to tap into that resource as much as possible." We should start doing this, cheap and effective. Ric Flair Posted 16 March 2006 Share Posted 16 March 2006 We should have a look at a centre midfielder called Bryson from Clyde, heard he's extremely talented. And if it's a non-league striker you want, then we should have a look at Richard Butler from AFC Wimbledon.
Mark Posted 16 March 2006 Share Posted 16 March 2006 Gary Roberts of Accrington Stanley has impressed me everytime i've watched them. I think he's a Left winger/Striker.
Jay Posted 16 March 2006 Share Posted 16 March 2006 We should start doing this, cheap and effective. Cheap but not yet proved to be effective!!! lets not forget when we signed Trev he had just scored 23goals in a season for a club about 4leagues higher than Wealdstone!!!
