foxes_fan Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 I do currently have a debit card with natwest, but unfortuantely that is banned from ebay So my question is, i need another debit card and where is the best place to go? Also do i need to ring up to make an appointment to open a new account or can i do it online? Cheers.
Guest Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 You can only have a debit card for any bank accounts you have, so if you want a new one, you need to open a new account.

Anish Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 You'll need a credit card to use ebay. You can open up as many bank accounts and have as many debit cards as you want, but you won't be able to use ebay without a credit card.

Ive got several ebay accounts and have not needed a credit card to be a buyer or a seller.
Lemon Harpic Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 On another banking-related note, does anybody have money in a savings account like an ISA? If so where do you have it and what kind of interest do you get?
Anish Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 Is that right Anish? Ive got several ebay accounts and have not needed a credit card to be a buyer or a seller. I thought it was, I opened a new ebay account about 2 months ago and I had to give my credit card details. It wouldn't let me proceed without it.
Katy Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 I thought it was, I opened a new ebay account about 2 months ago and I had to give my credit card details. It wouldn't let me proceed without it. Really? I opened another new one a couple of days ago and my debit card was accepted. Ahh maybe because I used Visa Electron (or Visa scumbag as I fondly call it) and it took the word Visa as a credit card (which its not, its actually my debit style card) maybe thats how I got round it. My apologies Anish, I took no notice of the rest of it and just clicked on Visa.
Nationwider Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 Aye, Visa Debit works with eBay for purchases. I've found you can usually sneak a Visa debit payment in as a credit card transaction on most web sites.
foxes_fan Posted 6 April 2006 Author Posted 6 April 2006 You don't need a credit card aslong as you have a debit card you can open an account.

Nationwider Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 You can get a pre-pay MasterCard HERE. Doesn't require a bank account apparently. Seems like a good idea on the face of it.

Nationwider Posted 6 April 2006 Posted 6 April 2006 Look at the ruddy charges on it though I thought that just as I posted. There had to be a catch. Gary Visa and Lesley Mastercard must be two very rich people.
Katy Posted 7 April 2006 Posted 7 April 2006 Cheques are the way forward. They are being fazed out as a form of payment in the near future, I read the other day Steven. Soon everything will be plastic
Katy Posted 7 April 2006 Posted 7 April 2006 Apparently you can now use debit cards (as in switch, maestro etc) as well as Credit Cards on ebay and paypal - this is now fact
Knighton Matt Posted 8 April 2006 Posted 8 April 2006 On another banking-related note, does anybody have money in a savings account like an ISA? If so where do you have it and what kind of interest do you get? I just opened a bradford and bingley e-isa which pays 5% which was about the best I could find. Think halifax e-isa might also be about 5% these are generally considered the best 2 mini cash isa's in the financial press at the moment. Though you would be dead against banks as a wannabe commie or are you really just a capitalist whore like the rest of us?!

Yeah, well...er, you don't pay tax on an ISA and by setting one up I would be emancipating money from the grasp of Tony's anti-working class imperialist war machine. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. 5% is a good rate but haven't I missed some sort of deadline because 5th April has passed?

You can top up mini-cash ISAs by £3,000 each tax year (up to 5th April). Therefore you haven't missed a deadline as such as you get a new allowance each tax year (i.e. you can invest £3k between now and 5th April 2007). The 'deadline' was for those who hadn't used up all of their £3k allowance in the previous tax year.
Unit Posted 8 April 2006 Posted 8 April 2006 HSBC mate, just because the card looks pretty damn snazzzyyyy!
Newcastle_Fox Posted 8 April 2006 Posted 8 April 2006 Nationwide Visa Debit card allowed me to set up my ebay.
