For me its Gerrard everytime , Dont get me wrong Lampard is class .Gerrard offers alot more in both departments , attacking and defensive ....Also i think Gerrards passinf ability is one of the best in the world , alot of the time better than Beckhams ! Scow Posted 3 November 2004 Posted 3 November 2004 Gerrard, no contest. However, I think Lampard's passing is more accurate in general. Gerrard tends to look for that 'killer ball' alot of the time. It looks great when it comes off, but usually the ball is conceded to the opposition in that instance....

IMO he has the qualities of Steven and doesnt get the credit he deserves. Just look at the past few England games! (is this going to be another late night 'matt jones' debate scowy)

While Gerrard is playing, the whole Liverpool style of play revolves around him - other players' roles are undermined because Gerrard wants to be the playmaker, wants to run box to box, wants to tackle here there and everywhere. Gerrard loses his positional sense a lot and that does create problems. Lampard is a quality attacking midfielder - get a hell of a lot more goals than Gerrard, and has a cracking shot on him. Also, he is Mr consistency - he has been an ever present for Chelsea for a couple of years and that says it all. Gerrard for all his strengths is far too injury prone (not his fault but would hinder any team's progression) and has not proved that he has the ability to play 50 games+ in a row.

Don't get my wrong, Gerrard is quality, I just think Franky is a class act, and I think he's a better attacking midfielder than Gerrard, and I like attacking midfielders He's who I'd have on my England shirt if I wasn't cheap.

Samu Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 Difficult decision but I had to go for Lampard. He's played consistently for so long and along with John Terry was the only player to be picked week in week out last season, despite the manager favouring squad rotation. Whenever Chelsea are playing badly he always motivates them and is always on the scoresheet. Don't get me wrong Gerrard does produce world class displays but there are the odd occasions that he has a bad game, whereas Lampard seems to consistently perform. So I think Frank just takes it....but its close
natas Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 I'd say Lampard, but only just, to me he isn't quite as good as last year espescially with his shooting technique but he's still a gun player. With Gerrard I totally agree with what Anish said, having said that, he still also has loads of quality too.
Ric Flair Posted 4 November 2004 Posted 4 November 2004 Gerrard is one of the best players in the world in my opinion and he is wasted at Liverpool. Liverpool are a class team, but as Anish says they revolve around Gerrard. In a better team I think Gerrard would be more effective for the team as his passing, his energy and his all round ability is phenomenal. Lampard is class too, he has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years. He is mr consistent, but I think Gerrard is a match winner.
