Thracian Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 If the jubilation we should be feeling at progressing to the next stage has been tempered by our frustratingly woeful performances let's at least drink a toast to that little diamond Joe Cole. Not only did he score the goal of a lifetime but his quick look-up and precision "lob wedge" onto Gerrard's head also put our second goal on a plate. And while half his team-mates were going awol there was Joe jinking and probing at every opportunity but, even when absolutely knackered, pounding back to make a fighting tackle or to help sustain our midfield. In the context of our team he was the only floodlight on full beam on a night when there were few lights working properly at any stage. In player ratings I'd have put him two points ahead of Crough and three ahead of anyone else which is one big gap.
